Petitions are just a vehicle for data mining. Run the fuck away!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 26997426

data mining is everywhere... and i do mean everywhere.

BUT these petitions are indeed a list of dissidents and i would not put it past obama to use them to his advantage.

i mean we're talking about a dictator in the making here.

The problem is that there are people who really seem to hope for civil war or something like that. Thiz is not what petitioning means.

People, something is happening here. I am being stalked AND likely hacked.

The above reply wasn't sent by myself although I had copied the link to that video, ready to use it in my reply - which I didn't. I just wrote the reply to the other poster.

This is a public, open wifi connection I am using here, and I know for a certainty when I arrived here, there was someone sitting exactly at the place I was going to sit, and who was sitting right opposite to me a few days ago.

It's not the first time this kind of thing is happening, BTW.

Further proof: every hour I have to click to open up the connection for another hour of free wifi.

This time (5 minutes ago) I didn't get the portal site; I had to wait and click several times. When I got it, it wasn't the same as before: the characters changed, they look different and are somewhar larger now.

This clearly indicates I am being stalked and monitored - AND annoyed.

Maybe I should better leave ths location. This is goihg to be difficult.

What a bunch of fucking morons. You don't even know what you are signing for. Texas tried secession in 1861 and lasted a grand total of 3 days. Turns out it's fantastically expensive to run your own country! Talk about escalating taxes! Who'd a-thunk it, right? What dumb shits Texan Tea Party members are.

If we are so stupid why does it bother you that someone is considering leaving?? Seriously? Whether or not it would work out for Texas, I don't know...but what is the big deal about having a conversation? If California wanted to secede, I bet the rest of us would be like, Ok, bye! I mean you can still visit the place!! Why the huge surge of anger and resentment????
Cause you need the money? that is all I can think of, cause the way some of you liberals speak, you wonder why ANY state would want to stay.

Me, I am not advicating secession or anything else. I am an outsider who is watching interestedly what is happeing in your country, and some developmengs are a bit worrying.

But I have to say, when Kosovo got independent they clearly didn't think it would be too expensive to run their country.

In any case, secessions and going "independent" clearly seems to be a sign of the times.

If it goes on, there will only be city states left in the ende..

For starters Belgium poster I don't expect you to understand anything a Texan or American wants for a govt. Secondly we have been living under tyranny for some time in this country since the civil war. The nanny state we live in is a corp. for the shareholders of the corp. The people are not shareholders in this corp. we are employees of the corp in every way shape and form. Lastly tyranny comes in many disguises and has been slowly pushed upon the american people in the form of income taxes, regulations for everything under the sun all for the greater good suposedly. Income taxes do nothing for the people and never have. These Taxes pay back the interest to the bankers who loan the money to the govt. There is a wealth of info out there and if you are truly interested in real history i would suggest going to a libary and starting there and forget everything you have been taught. Shit most americans don't even know the real history just what they have been told.

lol

In a bad marriage, if a wife were married to a serial wife abuser and she proposed talking about separation but the husband beat her for even thinking about it, and said "there you go stupid bitch...how dare you say I'm a bad husband...that's what you get for even thinking about divorce..."

....wouldn't it kinda just prove her point?

don't know why...thats what some of these discussions remind me of

No one is seriously talking about secession, but the topic interests me, because it is an attempt to seriously begin a discussion about renegotiating the terms of the relationship with the federal government

people can insult and threaten those petitioning all they want...it won't make them go away, and it may just serve to ignite the fire even more

What people don't seem to realize...these are historical trends and they tend to be world wide.

the late 18th century, when we had our revolution against Great Britain, soon after the French had their own revolution and there were other moves for independence across the world.

It was in the air...the same philosophers and economic ideas which had propelled us inspired others as well

... just as the revolt against the Catholic Church began across Europe and the UK, resulting in the Protestant Reformation and people taking back their religious rights from Rome which had grown too greedy and corrupt.

and everytime, the rebellion starts over unfair taxation. (or in the case of the church tithes, indulgencies) and increased regulations. People finally do reach a breaking point...

Across the pond Greece, Spain and perhaps even Italy are debating whether they want to be part of the European exercise in overreaching centralized government, and here in the US we seem to be starting on a similar path...China is starting to hear grumblings in outlying provinces as their economy cools

The next decade there will be more unemployed, less money all around the world and sovereign governments are beginning to collapse under massive debt and their own weight,

...and we all know the number one reason for separation and divorce are fights over money...

should get interesting...

eventually there is a trigger, who knows what it is

I suspect it will come down to one of these

1) increased medicaid/medicare taxes as a result of the 'affordable healthcare act', which may push some states over the tiping point if the economy slows and tax revenues continue to fall

2) Carbon taxes which may be that tax which breaks the camels back...working their way into everything, especially transportation and delivery, adding to food and energy inflation already pushing many into poverty

3) Restrictions and overreaching EPA proposals on increasing oil and gas production in the rich O&G states, even as events overseas serve to drive up the price of imported oil

or

4) Showdown with one of the states which passed legalized marijuana laws

The last one should be very interesting, a) because they were passed in overwhelmingly democratic states and b) because those states are in deep debt and the taxes raised by legal sale of marijuana could quickly help ease their economic problems.

I have no idea why the Feds keep provoking a showdown with states where the people have overwhelmingly spoken. What is the big deal?

Here in Texas I'm told that they have very strict laws against possession or smoking weed, but I could give a rats ass if California wants to sell it on every street corner

More power to them, and if it bring billions in tax money, hallelujia, may more states follow their lead.

If governments continue to demand austerity through painful cuts in jobs, services and benefits, while deliberately standing in the way of municipalities ability to raise legitimate revenue through creative thinking then I think we may see another provocation for rebellion.

Legalizing pot and taxing it's sale is win-win, imho..why the fight?

Texas has always had tough drug laws and most likely wont be changing them any time soon. I do applaud those folks who have instituted a change in their society with the decriminalization of mary jane. With that said though the folks at the federal level don't believe that the sheep know whats best for themselves. A showdown is coming one way or the other between the states and gubmint, just what is going to start it is yet to be seen. With the seccesion movement growing by the day it would appear that folks are waking up to the fact that they have been lied to and decieved and that could be the spark that ignites the fire.
