Assuming independent Texass does not immediately breakdown into hundreds of feuding warlords, it would become a 3rd world Hell hole pretty quickly. Diseases like cholera and malaria would make big come-backs. Damage from hurricanes, etc., would not be repaired about at all quickly. Probably it'd be a sort-of English-speaking Haiti.

More than half the servicemen in TX would side with us after the shit soup the big O gave the military at election time....almost all the military ballots were....."lost"...go figure. Hmmmm Well let's see... I went down to Lubbock on a contract and lived and worked there for a year. I remember the Rust, Dust and Roaches. There was the smell of oil from the refinery real strong sometimes and that's when it seemed, there were more folks in with respiratory problems.
There are alot of good ol Boys and real nice folks and real stupid racists. Which is a striking contrast to the education available in that fine state. Our kids had full day kindergarten classes with introduction to spanish and introduction to computer. They got a great start there. But alot may have changed.
It is a mixed bag of opportunity and back sliding depending on which direction you are headed.
Lubbock General Hospital attached to the University of Texas Tech Medical School was one of the finest institutions I ever had the opportunity to work in. A short term acute care facility with 5 ICU's. It was a great and wonderful asset to the entire West Texas region and eastern NM. Across the street is the Ranching Heritage Museum, a collection of ranchhouses from all over the area, so you can what made the Texans so strong.
I loved that year in Lubbock. It made me stronger. Would I go back...never. It was a Dry County. You had to drive out of the county to buy alcohol. Then folks drove back , often drinking. We had some of the worst accidents, and injuries. Then the shootings, stabbings and beatings. No way. Besides I earned my Social Security and I might need healthcare and food stamps someday. Got my Family all over these United States. No way Baby. Thunderstorms.... Code Brown was a run to the stairwell for a Tornado. You can have it. We settled in Hawaii. Grow us some Kona Coffee.........

If I were Obama, I would tell the Comanches, Apaches, etc., that they could have as much of Texas as they could take.

I am a Texan resident since 1968, my father served 2 tours in Vietnam protecting this country.
