My 7 year old found a 3 carat diamond ring today in the dirt
At first we thought it is was costume jewelry. The thing must be 15 or 20 years old. It was caked in green tarnish about as hard as concrete. Man was he proud finding that.

Just yesterday he had piled up some rocks and said he was finding crystals for mommy and that he already had a million dollars worth. Kind of a premonition maybe.

Anyway at a glance I figure this stone is worth about $15,000. Maybe more if the clarity is good. Kid just paid for his first semester of college.

Green tarnish? What makes you think it's a real diamond?

You should at least check on Craigslist and local newspaper to see if someone lost it. Doh.

uhhh

a 3 carat excellent quality diamond will run you like 75 grand

maybe not now a days since that big discovery in russia

a good diamond will be laser inscribed

take it to a jeweler

it might be worth more than you think

That would be great if its worth an assload.

Like I said its really old. He found it at our local marina. They get bored of sitting on the boat.

Wife cleaned it up with some kit she has and I googled how to tell if its real. There's engravings on the band for gold and something else.

The diamond doesn't fog. It passed the tests. Gonna take it to a trusted source for an appraisal and then get a second opinion.

Man, that's a hell of a find! Even if it has to be re-cut, it's worth thousands. The green tarnish could be salt corrosion of the nickel in the white gold. It's white gold right?

Have a look for the engraving, it might not be as old as you think. Better if it doesn't have the number because it would be registered to its owner & you require paperwork to sell it on.
If it's genuine & un-numbered, you shouldn't have any hassle selling it. Ask your local jeweler for advice.
Lucky, lucky guy!

Diamonds r a dime a dozen. Fake currency.....someone might have sentimental value. Or perhaps they freed themselves. Advertise. If no reply. Finders keepers. Or a good cause. Xx

I do not know the Rules in your Country
but i would do a Announcement at the Policestation
and after ca. 2 Years it is yours, otherwise it is
more than difficult to get the right Price for this Stone!

When it is a good one he is registerd and impossible
to sale on the legal Way!

You can use also some Mafia Channels but for
Diamonds the Street Price is very low, 1/10- 3/10

The marina we have our boat at is highly transient. And it's under renovation. Construction turned the thing over. But it's a nice big stone. Bigger than my wife's.

I asked the marina already if anything had been reported lost in the past but its under new ownership and they blew me off. It's a big tourist destination in Florida. I doubt any locals would keep their boat at this place. Finding the original owner of this ring I think would be futile.

In our country its finders keepers. But people are pretty good about looking for the owners. I found an iPhone a couple months back and got it to the guys girlfriend. She instantly started snooping through his files. Haha.

Incredible that they can number them like that. And yes it's white gold. The ring was tarnished and it looks like that crept up on to the rock. The thing has been next to salt water for god knows how long.
