Well, working in the mental health I learned a good bit about how "the system" works. Apparently (at least in PA) a person on disability can still work part time, as long as he/she doesn't earn over a certain amount (I can't recall the exact figure).

The fact is, I don't think I could ever bring myself to pull out an Access/Food Stamp card at a store, I'd be too ashamed. But the thought has crossed my mind.

SSDI ; disability is NOT that easy to get.

Most get denied the first time and have to appeal it.

I have seen cases that take years and some are denied.

Don't bank on it for simple depression and anxiety disorder.

SO SO SO many people have these 2 diagnoses today...and are successfully continuing to work.

You will have a difficult time convincing a board of mental health professionals who oversee these types of cases that you are too disabled not to work.

I'm sure a lot of them aren't there by choice. I have no qualms with those people who are doing their best, and truly are trying to get back on their feet. It's the people leeching off the system I have a problem with. I couldn't be one of those people. I wasn't raised that way.

Well with no jobs out there, more and more people everyday cant afford food,and with the population rate growing at what some say is more than exponential accompanied with Illegals coming into the u.s. for jobs.The housing market is down taking construction out causing job loss for immigrants and americans,Its almost like taking a link out of the food chain.free phones,food stamps,no jobs basically making alot of people become dependent on the government.The more dependent you are on somthing the more power it has in your life.Through it all they still cant see to decriminalize marijuana.Then trying to place medical laws so that everyone must buy insurance or face fines and penalties?Without jobs we cant afford the insurance,let alone fines.which would throw alot of people into a vicious cycle.We need to change these types of issues,in order to regain independence.

I say go for it..I've been milking unemployment for the past 9 months and I can honestly say that I'm completely STRESS FREE. Plus I have a part time job that pays under that table so I can continue to collect my entitlement checks.

I wake up around 9am daily..make myself a nice breakfast, workout, go to the park, read the paper, watch some teevee, check out GLP, have sex with my hot gf..life is GOOD. Come, join the fun ;)

Regardless of how you were raised there could easily come a day when you lose your job.I know you have a job by the arrogance in your messsage.If you didnt have it you would singing a different tune.I was raised that if your down to the wire then you use tools around you and think your way out and do what it takes to survive.Having a job has many factors including location,demand,qualifications.Some people have a different hand of cards than you,So you should be able to respect that.

I keep saying this over and over on GLP, welfare people are not living comfortably in the lap of luxury. When I worked in a Checks Cashing place here in NYC, where I would encounter many, many welfare people, it was very obvious that they were on welfare, by the quality of their clothes. Then there's the mandatory jobs that I believe you have to do. My cousin was on food stamps and she used to have to go to some miserable job.

Stop being lazy and useless to society and contribute.

Our countries are fucked because off all the lazy future teens and young adults living on welfare and disability because they are delinquent stubborn people who are physically able.

I've been collecting UI for the past nine months, though I went off of it over the summer and worked, and this HAS BEEN THE HAPPIEST TIME OF MY LIFE, MORE OR LESS.

There are other issues, but without the work, it's just been wonderful.

Having to work full time at some slave job is torture.

Part-time is fine, but full time is way too much. You have no life. I think $700 a month of SSDI would be wonderful. I'm pretty sure you can live out of the country as well, so you could live well in Ecuador. However, you do have to maintain medical records and see doctors.
