Why would u try to get the answer on a question, where the answer is never to be proven the right..

U scared to die?
Scared of the unknowing?

In that case there are many religions that will make u feel better.

Thanks for all the responses, no matter how fucked up and crazy some of them are.

wtfcool2

I simply started thinking about my own mortality last night. I saw the nothingness looming in the distance and started contemplating it. I haven't given up on life or anything, I'm just trying to find answers and see how other people deal with things.

I appreciate the variety of religions represented, but every one of them sounds like a bullshit fairy tale to me now. No offense intended. The most logical answers sound the most likely, such as the individuals presenting opinions based on scientific evidence. Perhaps a god created all this expecting us to have faith on something we can't see or sense otherwise and we have to eschew logic and reason, but that sounds like a bullshit asshole thing to do. I'd rely on faith if that hadn't already failed me a thousand times, so I instead find much more reliability in logic and reason to get by.

Will it be a simple cessation of existence when I die? Probably. But perhaps I'm wrong, as is sometimes the case, and there is some sort of afterlife to look forward to. I'm not ruling it out completely just yet, but so far I've seen zero evidence to support those ideas.

If I simply wanted to feel better all the time, I'd put my undying faith in Jack Daniels.

Re: For those that have no religion, what do you think happens when you die?
As a Christian I always believed what I was told, that there is a Heaven and that when we die we will go there to live forever if we believe in Jesus. It was an afterlife to look forward to because we would see people we care about that died before us.

Now that I am questioning everything I grew up being taught, I don't know what to think. If there is no god that created all this, then what are we? The most logical answer seems to be that we are just some self aware living tissue with the equivalent of a fleshy computer running sophisticated software. Once the body dies, the software just goes away. There is no Heaven or Hell or Valhalla or reincarnation or rebirth or Summerland. There's just death and blackness and the cessation of being.

The latter view pretty much sucks. What is there to live for knowing there is simply nothing at the end of life? "Well," you say, "we can live to leave something behind for the greater purpose such as raising our children or making the world a better place for future generations." Yeah, all that's great, but it doesn't do fuck all for me. If I simply cease to be, what good is any of this life? It's just a brief spark of existence and then just gone. Being self aware to know how brief this life is with just nothing at the end is just a kick in the teeth.

Given my original beliefs, part of me wants to believe there's a chance it's still true and that my close friends and family are waiting for me just on the other side. But the more I live and the less I see of any kind of god, the bleaker that outlook becomes.

For those of you who do not believe in gods or afterlifes of any kinds, what do you believe is at the end of this life? If it's just nothing, how do you keep from being depressed as fuck about it?

I'll answer this question with a question for ya....

If YOU were the Creator of all things, and YOU were 'unconditional love' itself, how would time and this whole 'earth' scenario play out to the end???hf

Re: For those that have no religion, what do you think happens when you die?
I for one remember existing before this life; so the idea of death is merely the shedding of skin. In this case, one more personality.

It's very complicated because when we engage this human experience, we forget that we existed prior to engaging this virtual reality.

Now that we are engaged, we are subjected to all these belief-systems. Therein lies the problem in how we model out what happens next. Based on belief... anything goes.

Based on knowledge, you'll know soon enough that this is just an experience and that you are busy experiencing many different offerings that make up reality.

The good news, you will survive death because you existed prior and will likely always exit.

The bad news, it's probably not what you believe it to be and is likely something entirely different than you were taught.

At least it's something.

I also have memories that I cannot place. Ones that just don't seem to fit into my current life line. I wonder if they were really dreams from my childhood, or if I am just remembering incorrectly. I don't know what to believe, but I know there is more going on than meets the eye.

Double-slit Experiment and Quantum Eraser proving collapsed wave-function is from a probability field when the particle is "rendered" into this virtual reality.

Many physicists and mathematicians say it is more likely that we are living in a "Simulation" than a physical reality because quantum mechanics and the math supports the hypothesis.

Simulation theory is far more mathematically supported than the big-bang.

I can go on and on... all of the above support with scientific evidence and theory that what I am saying is not simply dismissible bullshit but likely fact.

Re: For those that have no religion, what do you think happens when you die?
If you believe in the only begotten son of God and he sent him to save us, died on that cross for our sins, got up out of that grave, gave us the way to be, so we won't die. Christ Immanuel didn't bring a new religion, he brought the good news and good news it was.

Except for some that like to pretend they were religious and that was what mattered more than what Christ taught. They thought nailing him to a cross was a good idea. It wasn't!

Re: For those that have no religion, what do you think happens when you die?
I do not follow any religion. I think when a person dies the elements they are composed of break down to be used by other things. We are all made of Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen, Calcium, Phosphorus, Potassium, Sulfur, Sodium, Magnesium
Copper, Zinc, Selenium, Molybdenum, Fluorine, Chlorine, Iodine, Manganese, Cobalt, Iron, Lithium, Strontium, Aluminum, Silicon, Lead, Vanadium, Arsenic, and Bromine. They all have a use somewhere. Some will go back into the air, some provide nutrition for life on earth, some may go on and compose new DNA, form fossil fuels, ect. As for our thoughts and awareness, I believe that is all gone when we die. The only way we "live" on is in the memories we leave behind. But that is just the way I view things. Even without religion I live life the best I can to enjoy what time I have with my friends and family and treat others kindly to see that they can enjoy life as well.
