"Well," you say, "we can live to leave something behind for the greater purpose such as raising our children or making the world a better place for future generations." Yeah, all that's great, but it doesn't do fuck all for me. If I simply cease to be, what good is any of this life?

I'm just saying that even if I raise my kids to live well and proper and do my best to leave a little something behind for the world, when I die and cease to be then I'm just gone and will no longer exist. I'll not be in heaven or anywhere to see the fruits of my labor and, as far as my "self" or "soul" is concerned, it'll be all for naught.
