For those that have no religion, what do you think happens when you die?
As a Christian I always believed what I was told, that there is a Heaven and that when we die we will go there to live forever if we believe in Jesus. It was an afterlife to look forward to because we would see people we care about that died before us.

Now that I am questioning everything I grew up being taught, I don't know what to think. If there is no god that created all this, then what are we? The most logical answer seems to be that we are just some self aware living tissue with the equivalent of a fleshy computer running sophisticated software. Once the body dies, the software just goes away. There is no Heaven or Hell or Valhalla or reincarnation or rebirth or Summerland. There's just death and blackness and the cessation of being.

The latter view pretty much sucks. What is there to live for knowing there is simply nothing at the end of life? "Well," you say, "we can live to leave something behind for the greater purpose such as raising our children or making the world a better place for future generations." Yeah, all that's great, but it doesn't do fuck all for me. If I simply cease to be, what good is any of this life? It's just a brief spark of existence and then just gone. Being self aware to know how brief this life is with just nothing at the end is just a kick in the teeth.

Given my original beliefs, part of me wants to believe there's a chance it's still true and that my close friends and family are waiting for me just on the other side. But the more I live and the less I see of any kind of god, the bleaker that outlook becomes.

For those of you who do not believe in gods or afterlifes of any kinds, what do you believe is at the end of this life? If it's just nothing, how do you keep from being depressed as fuck about it?

For those that have no religion the soul catcher puts on the show that it feels you will most fall for, and it catches you and spits you back to earth; reincarnation.

I don't have a religion, they are terrible and not hardly any truth in them. Why would anyone want a religion, other than for the social purposes. That bible is so mucked up

I AM THAT I AM, I am not a follower

I am an old old soul and the soul does not die and you are all eternal beings at various points in your journey.

You absolutely cannot die. You are not the body. The body dies, not you. If you are an earth soul you return to the astral realms until your next incarnation.

If you are an highly evolved soul from some place else, you can return to craft or the planets of heaven or other high worlds you came from.

Read Walter Russell OP it will do you wonders.

No its not a selfish view, read the whole thing he is pondering and it would be a nice idea is some others would do the same, it leads to truth. It doesn't fuck with OP because he knows inside life is eternal.

No one is purely selfless. I'm not saying that everyone else can fuck off. I'm just saying that even if I raise my kids to live well and proper and do my best to leave a little something behind for the world, when I die and cease to be then I'm just gone and will no longer exist. I'll not be in heaven or anywhere to see the fruits of my labor and, as far as my "self" or "soul" is concerned, it'll be all for naught.

The short answer: you get a new body suit and carry on in a physical plane if that's your journey - or, you skip the body suit and go to a non-physical plane.

At death, the physical body dies, but, you are not your body - you are spirit.... eternal spirit. You are part of the All That Is - at no point will you ever be a part of the all that is not :) (for by definition, the all that is not is.... not!)

EVERYONE has religion... We all answer the following questions

1) Is there a God and what is he/she/they
2) How did I get here
3) what should I do while here
4) what happens after I die

These 4 questions rule how you live.

Re: For those that have no religion, what do you think happens when you die?
I for one remember existing before this life; so the idea of death is merely the shedding of skin. In this case, one more personality.

It's very complicated because when we engage this human experience, we forget that we existed prior to engaging this virtual reality.

Now that we are engaged, we are subjected to all these belief-systems. Therein lies the problem in how we model out what happens next. Based on belief... anything goes.

Based on knowledge, you'll know soon enough that this is just an experience and that you are busy experiencing many different offerings that make up reality.

The good news, you will survive death because you existed prior and will likely always exit.

The bad news, it's probably not what you believe it to be and is likely something entirely different than you were taught.

At least it's something.

Re: For those that have no religion, what do you think happens when you die?
Obviously Christianity is too silly to be true. There's no reason to fall into existential despair. There are other religions and phisosophies. Read. Learn. Experience. Discuss. You don't have to be an empty shell because you realized the Jesus thing was an astrological mnemic shared by many religions.

Probably we are reincarnated. There is no God to punish us or reward us. There is only what we can learn. We keep coming back, to be with souls we love, and who knows how many worlds there are where we can meet again? Its pretty horrible, to consider cycles of birth and death, but its also beautiful. Children always intuit it. So do many older or dying people.

We live forever.
God loves us.
You won't understand what God is with a human brain. Give it up.
Don't be ashamed to be a Christian. Its all metaphor, but very beautiful metaphor. You don't have to give it up. Just don't take it so literally.

There is nothing to be afraid of.

I believe that when you "die" your soul returns to the higher form of yourself where you then decide if you want to gain more experience on a 3d planet or remain in "heaven."

If you believe in the only begotten son of God and he sent him to save us, died on that cross for our sins, got up out of that grave, gave us the way to be, so we won't die. Christ Immanuel didn't bring a new religion, he brought the good news and good news it was.

Except for some that like to pretend they were religious and that was what mattered more than what Christ taught. They thought nailing him to a cross was a good idea. It wasn't!

I'm not sure, but I am excited at the the possibilities.

Energy cannot be destroyed only transformed, so anything is possible.

Hopefully reincarnation, being another animal would be awesome. Or it could be nothing, just the end.

Can't wait to find out, but don't mind waiting :)

 Quoting: Quagmire

Prior to this life, I died as a soldier in a war. Probably not much older than 18 years. The memories are very fragmented and distant. As a child, I remembered a lot more about that experience than I do now.

I can relate to a lot of reincarnation evidence, such as Dr. Ian Stevenson's work: [link to reluctant-messenger.com] and many other people who have come forward with similar memories. Not surprisingly, lots of people have reported similar experiences.

The long of the short, had a little tour of the "afterlife" for what it was worth only to find out shortly after that I was being sent back. I didn't really want to come back and fought against it which is what I attribute to the memories as being dragged into this life. Thankfully.

Now that I am back, it's been an interesting journey largely due to this knowing and I have expanded greatly on that knowledge by furthering my understanding of reality and our relationship with it both as a "physical human" and the being who is experiencing it.

There is still a lot to be learned but it certainly takes the edge off when people I know die and even when I quibble about my own mortality to myself. There is some good news in knowing that we continue on.

May not be what the local religions are all selling but I'd rather know the truth than be stuck in some belief lost wandering around spinning my wheels.

Re: For those that have no religion, what do you think happens when you die?
Well, first, see things like this - you don't choose what you believe (or for that matter, don't believe). You accept what makes the most sense to you.

Religion is theoretical. If you're satisfied accepting that when you die, you either A, B or C, then it shouldn't impede your ability to live this life. Faith is a dangerous thing. By definition, it is accepting something as a fact without having facts to support it. If you know something to be true, it is no longer faith.

Having doubt is what allows this powerful brain we have to think outside the box. The first time I admitted to myself that I didn't really believe everything I was raised to believe, I started looking for real answers and have been much happier ever since. I let go of the fear of Hell; that if I doubted my belief, I would be punished.

What I believe now is that if Hell exists (in the context of eternal torture), there are significant flaws with the way we've learned about it.

First and most importantly, if everything happens for a reason, then it can be concluded that everything is a lesson. If that's true, then what would be the purpose in a punishment if there is no use for the knowledge?

Secondly, I try not to be bitter. No matter how much wrong someone does in this life, I have to accept that they don't know any better and that the punishment of eternal torture far exceeds the crime. I have more important concerns than what an "enemy" has to face once they die. They're dead. I'm not.

Finally, no one who knows Hells exists would ever sin. We know in this life that if you get caught murdering someone, you go to prison. We know prison exists. However, without proof, there is no threat to act as a deterrent from "sin".

This is already longer than I planned, so I'll jump to my guesses of what happens after death.

1) Nothing. Dreamless sleep. If that's it, I won't know anyway so it doesn't bother me.

2) I wake up. I go back to a more important life and laugh about how serious I was about this dream.

3) I go into a deeper dream. Our dreams in this reality are a reflection of our self-esteem. What if my intentions in this life dictate what my "next" life is like?

4) A more scientific answer, we don't die. As the brain "shuts off", it releases DMT and time may perceive to no longer exist. We experience whatever we think will happen. If you consider yourself a "sinner" by your own standard, you live in the anticipation of Hell.

4b) That has already happened an infinite number of times and is happening right now.

5) Something I haven't considered yet but I'm open to the possibility until it presents enough reasonable doubt.

What happens when you step on a ant? We are ants on a rock in a very very big space. Compared to the universe we are million times smaller than a atom is to us. We made up god since we have fear of the unknown. Can you imagine living on this rock if nobody feared going to hell? The idea was correct but failed when it allowed 21 major religions to exist. Religious wars (the 21) is the number one killer of man and always will be. I can not be a part of those groups. They all have blood on there hands. I personally believe there is more to this than meets the eye. I don't believe in man and his wicked stories.

I'm not a 2012 believer and there is no question that we are facing a global crisis in 2012: Fukushima, Earthquakes and the potential for WWIII. There is always some kind of Doom going on, this is Earth, it has it's reputation.

What is important is the experience itself. From my perspective, Earth is like a database of experience that we collapse into and out of. The time that we come into this data, is non-local and non-linear.

For example, think of this like a computer-game where you can pick a character in any era in Earth's history and play the game. When you die, finish the game you pick another point. Because it's just data, information it doesn't matter what timeline, or probability.

You are what matter, and what you gain from the experience. The data, the physical world collapses when you die. It's Cartesian 3D mathematics at work. A rendered phenomena like a dream you will wake up from.

What we think is a 3D physical world really isn't. That is the end-result of information processing rendering the data into a personalized view. It's more like the Matrix then a physical world.

Time/Space are merely rendered results of how we process the data once we are slotted in. Think digital virtual reality and you are a client feeding from a datastream that we call objective reality.

That is more important then what happens tomorrow. Figuring out what you really are in this mess. Digging at the truth through first-hand personal experience.

Re: For those that have no religion, what do you think happens when you die?
As a Christian I always believed what I was told, that there is a Heaven and that when we die we will go there to live forever if we believe in Jesus.

 Quoting: Quagmire

When i was a child i was told to not go to the river or the crocodiles will eat me.
(We have no crocodiles in europa)

I realized that when i grew up.

No crocodiles, no easter bunnies, no Santa Claus ..

Trust me 99% of the bullshit you were told is told so that you behave as wished .. and is not in your personal interest.
