"Workers at Hostess Brands, maker of Twinkies , Ho Hos and Wonder Bread, have threatened to strike if the company imposes “unfair” contract terms, including wage cuts.

The Teamsters Union, representing about 7,500 of the company’s 19,000 employees, said that more than 90 percent of its Hostess members voted to authorize a strike if “unfair contract terms” are approved as part of its bankruptcy proceedings.

Hostess, based in Irving, Texas, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Jan. 11 and is continuing to operate during bankruptcy proceedings."

Hostess says it is closing three bakeries around the country as some of its workers go on strike.


It seems hard to believe that products many of us grew up with could go away. But that's exactly what Hostess says will happen, sooner rather than later, unless its bakers go back to work.

In the Chicago area, some Hostess workers who remain on the job say they support their colleagues across the country.

Hostess has three plants in Illinois. Only the Peoria facility is officially on strike.

Could this be the end of the Twinkie and the Ho-Ho?

"I'm pretty sure they'll go under," said Hostess baker Melvin Davis. "If people don't go back to work, they'll go under."

I don't buy it. Hostess makes a lot of money, their costs haven't changed much in years and they have a killer distribution network.

Somehow they got into trouble, but there have to be a lot of places for them to cut back before they take hard working people, ones needed to keep things running, and shaft them with wage cuts.

Not that something like that might not be needed, but if the people at the top aren't taking the heaviest cuts, then this is all B.S.

If you can't keep your business up and pay your people, you don't deserve large amounts of money.

I always hated twinkies. people could never survive on them after a nuclear war anyway, they would be irradiated if they really did exist. I dont believe this in any way causes any more serious doom than anything else going on.

The good thing is there are still some twinkie pans for sale on various online websites and even in some nicer home and garden retail stores.

Recipes, including vegan versions can be found online and in some cookbooks and on copycat recipe website. If you have patience to bake them it is doom off.

Don't worry, Twinkies are so full of preservatives & other chemicals that they will keep for at least a decade :) Go corner the market now.
