Re: TARGET WORKERS PROTEST WORKING ON THANKSGIVING
Hell I used to work at a gas station as a night team lead. Thanksgiving day we would split the shifts in half to 4 hour shifts so everyone could be home with their family at some point in the day. I did this for 3 years. Christmas, New Years and Easter were all the same. Suck it up you chose to work retail. Remember in America if you don't like the job, you can find another one. If you don't like the company your working for, there's always the door. On Thanksgiving be thankful you have a job. Having a job isn't a right (well at least not yet, until Comrade Obama has his way and were all working for conscripted labor forces. Yay Gulags!)

They should be happy they have a job. I'm a disabled Vet and lost my job because of my injuries sustained while overseas.

While that sucks... they should just be glad it isn't the U.S. Postal service. That is just about the time where it gets pretty busy for them. Most don't know how bad it gets for them. My brother's a mail handler meaning he sorts what goes where and to who. It usually is busy around the holidays especially with all of the cards, packages ( alot of those are not light, by the way), toy magazines, etc being sent out. Plus their hours are worse.

Not everyone in retail works on Thanksgiving though.

Ohh Rah to you brother. I'm a vet myself. Though I am employed. What I think is sad about that is in the military if you get broke and you can't do your job they shift you someplace else like Admin or something. Why don't companies make an active effort for administration jobs hire disabled veterans. Win win as I see it. The disabled vet though he/she might not be able to walk or whatever can work in some capacity whether it be filling out spreadsheets or doing the necessary administrative stuff. While people who are able work in the more physical jobs. I know if I had my own software company, I would try to seek disabled vets as programmers, or just general administration jobs.

Re: TARGET WORKERS PROTEST WORKING ON THANKSGIVING
My gripe concerns all the women over 30 I see working at Target. Most of the women who work there do so to supplement their other jobs or their husbands' jobs, and most of them are still mainly responsible for preparing their families' holiday dinner. I just think that it is a shame that with so many families having to rely on at least two jobs (with at least one of these often being a low-wage job, such as retail or fast food) that there can't be at least two days a year (Thanksgiving and Christmas) that they can spend the whole day just spending time with their families.

And, yes, I know that in this economy, people SHOULD be grateful to be working at all, but I stil think the CEO's of these companies who decide that these retail stores should be open on those two major holidays make the pre-visitation Ebeneezer Scrooge look like Santa Clause.

(And, FYI, I am now retired.)

I worked retail during the holidays last year and our store usually had the young people (late teens, early twenties) work the holidays so that the older people with kids got to stay home. Some of the older people still wanted to work because it was time and a half pay. Everyone had to work black Friday, however. If you didn't, it was bye bye for you.

just curious if you keep gas on the farm and run it in your non-farm vehicles? also, do you get any kind of subsidies for your acres? We own a business and also work for sure 6 days a week and usually only 6 to 8 hrs on Sunday. The alarm goes off at 4 am for hubby and he's usually back in by 8 to 9pm. Some weather slows us down. We are so, so thankful to have the work come our way. No complaints, it's just our lives. Whistle while your work.

Re: TARGET WORKERS PROTEST WORKING ON THANKSGIVING
WOW!! Do you really get paid $40 an hour for working in retail? In what capacity (cashier, manager, stock, clerk)? How does that compare to the average wage in Norway?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 9253046

That's with the holidays / 'late hour' extra pay. My normal hourly wage is 26$. Compared to average wage that is not so good here.

I work as cashier and "restocker" in a food store.

Re: TARGET WORKERS PROTEST WORKING ON THANKSGIVING
So, what do you think? Do you think that workers should be forced to work Thanksgiving night? Are YOU planning on shopping then?

BTW, out of over 8,000 online votes on a Today Show website, 62% say that stores should wait to open until 7 a.m. the day after Thanksgiving.)
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 9253046

Just one more erosion of the family by promoting worshipping at the altar of greed. It's disgusting.

No, I won't be shopping. The whole materialistic slant of the holidays makes me want to vomit.

America has been transformed.

Working on "former" traditional American holidays will become the new normal. The transition is in the making.

Our replacement population could care less.

Re: TARGET WORKERS PROTEST WORKING ON THANKSGIVING
This is ridiculous. All of these people protesting are most likely the ones that the rest of American are having to support or pay our taxes to. First of all, we do not care about your holiday. If you do not like the Target policy, then leave. There are thousands of poeple that are wanting a job.

This reverts back to the spoiled younger generation. What a lazy bunch of loosers. I am physically sick of listening to this pathetic group.
