That's easy, gold has been a valuable metal for thousands of years. If you don't think gold is used in many industrial applications, you should do a little research. I shouldn't take more than a minute to figure out the truth. Gold will most likely continue to be valuable in the future. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. Now we have federal reserve notes. They aren't backed by anything more substancial than Benny's word that it is real momey. But even Benny wont say how much it will be worth tomorrow. If he keeps the printers rolling, it wont be worth much. The money has nothing backing it, so we call it Benny's butt money. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. It doesn't corrode, it doesn't tarnish, and it is inert. There are gold artifacts that were buried thousands of years ago that look exactly the same as they were when they were buried. Every other material that mankind worked back then rusted, rotted, or just plain disintegrated. The combination of being easy to find, easy to work, and having permanence all made gold the most valuable metal in ancient times. Now what I find fascinating is that in Central America, cocao beans were used as currency. You could buy livestock, slaves, good and services (even the service of a prostitute) with cocoa beans. When the Spanish arrived, Herman Cortez instantly had the idea to begin a cocoa plantation. He would then trade the natives cocoa beans for gold. Smart man, talk about a "growth" fund! |
