Re: I got a bad feeling about these petitions for secession
You could look at the petitions as a means made to let off steam. I think the govt. would find that useful. Let people express their discontent peacefully through petitions, maybe some demonstrations etc.. I think the govt probably welcomes these petitions in lieu of civil unrest. If unrest were to follow then who knows, but it will be interesting no matter what happens. If it builds with growing numbers and keeps up for another week or two then I'd bet you will see politicians get involved. Not supporting secession but wanting to take the lead and be seen as a champion for those who feel unhappy with the current govt. and direction of the country.

Signing a virtual document indicating ones wish to secede could be perceived as engaging in an action threatening the security and sovereignty of the nation . Isn't that considered terrorism ? Of course, GITMO isn't large enough to hold the number of people who's 'signatures' are on that list. Doesn't FEMA have a number of unoccupied facilities suitable for use as temporary retraining facilities ?

There is an Indian republic that is not even recognized I forgot the name, do people even think they have a 0.0001% chance that the US government will let a STATE secede.
