In their glory days, they could stare down a Soviet Juggeraut that had a world-class space program, different military branches, gazillion nukes and more tanks than the rest of the world combined!.... plus an absolutely all encompassing KGB/GRU security apparatus.... plus the political party itself that had control over everything, including several dozen client states allies with USSR.
