| INK3 User ID: 27337849 11/13/2012 06:05 PM ![]() Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | First off, I am extremely grateful for what I consider to be a temporary situation. Quoting: Miggy But how did they arrive at this? About 3 weeks ago I was approved for an amount higher than what I had before. Based upon my situation I am now going to beallocated $200 per month. PLEASE DON'T FLAME ME!!!!! I AM SINCERELY GRATEFUL FOR THIS ASSISTANCE AND TO all of you who are providing it through your taxes. On Saturday morning I went to the store and was denied my shopping. I couldn't do anything until today since yesterday was a legal holiday. I went to the local office and was SO grateful when a worker helped me obtain help that usually takes weeks. However, he said I would only have $120 until December 10th instead of $200 because they had to prorate it from the past few days. On the 10th, I would have been awarded $200. On the 13th, I am awarded $120. How can $80 depreciate in 3 days? That's almost 50%. I can not say this enough: I am grateful! I am Grateful! I am GRATEFUL!!!!!! I am grateful! I am Grateful! I am GRATEFUL!!!!!! I am grateful! I am Grateful! I am GRATEFUL!!!!!! I am grateful! I am Grateful! I am GRATEFUL!!!!!! All I'm trying to do is understand the math. Anyone? Well, since you're dealing with a government entity, their math is like no other on the planet. It sounds like you're not getting all of November, for some reason it wasn't awarded at the time you got it, and when you went to the office, they decided you will get it starting on the 13th or so, which leaves the first part of Nov. without benefits. I realize this doesn't make sense, but it is the government way. "When tyrants tremble in their fear, and hear their death knell ringing, When friends rejoice both far and near, how can I keep from singing" page7 |

I understand that it could be prorated based upon being allocated the amount on the first of the month and not receiving the allocation until the 10th. I'm just going to sit tight on the credit I have until after Thanksgiving. Happy night, good friends! Miggy I still don't get it and it makes my head spin trying to figure it out. There's so much to consider, and it's a good idea to sit tight with what you have if you're able. Sitting here thinking about what I'd do, it would be a hard decision of whether to save it or spend it now while prices are good. There are incredible deals with turkeys now, as well as potatoes, cranberry sauce, etc. Doubt the turkeys will go lower and there is very little meat you can get below 1.00 a lb. Food is a biggie with me. Hate to hear of people going hungry or not having enough. They are cutting food stamps in Ohio and from what I've been reading, it looks like the other states will follow, but they haven't been told yet. If so, there are going to be so many people in a world of hurt. You are fortunate that you know how to cook. That in itself can save so much. Was trying to put myself in your shoes and think it through. After checking local grocery prices, I came up with a list of what I'd probably do......using half or less of the money and have food to last a while. It was fun doing it, but wouldn't be so fun if it were done out of necessity. I'll share it if you want, but it's far from ideal, that's for sure. Have you ever thought about writing about these things? Like self help articles on how you made it with that amount? What you fixed, how you planned, how you arrived at your decision? Magazine publishers are great at seeing the future and what will be selling. They have at least a several month lead time. By the time you got it finished and submitted, it would probably be prime time. People could use it now. I shudder to think how they'll be needing it in a few months. Just a thought. |

This is the coolest idea in the world. Thank you! I have spent the past couple of years wondering why I'm in this position- going from riches to rags- and maybe this is part of my purpose. Indeed, I have found incredible ways to stretch a little food to feed many- kind of like the fishes and loaves. People on GLP helped me learn a lot once, when I asked for suggestions. I'll try and find that thread. Maybe I'll start a journal or something. There IS one thing I know that has helped me and I doubt many people will believe it: If you're hungry and won't have food for a couple of days just pray to God to take the feeling away until you get more food. Truly, it works. OK. Good night, kiddos. Miggy Be Still and know that I am God. -Psalms 46:10 |

Quoting: JackedVegan Sorry Miggy not trying to doubt you claim, just super curious where that occurs, if you don't mind? thanks I don't know why they do it Jack, but they do. I'm in Northern Oklahoma. The city I work in (Poulsbo, WA) just managed to get the center of town WiFi (for free) service. They'd put in the fiber-optics several years ago when other services were being updated, and we got the go-ahead just a month ago. Sooner or later they may add a charge to use it, but for now it's free. It's also free at my library (our limit is an hour a day, or more if the machines are not in use), and our WiFi extends beyond the building itself, so if you have your mobile device and are waiting outside in your car for the library to open, you can hook up also. So, lots of people (even those currently on welfare) can manage to use the internet without having to pay for it. Remember, Miggy isn't the usual rags to riches gal... she went the other way, and a computer was in her life before she hit the skids and needed some help. My family's personal laptop is 5 years old and counting, and still going strong, so IF we ever needed to stop paying for internet at home, we'd STILL have some options for keeping connected without having to pay for it. |
