Klonopin for migraines?

Klonopin (clonazepam) is used to control seizures in epilepsy and for the treatment of panic disorder. Taking them for a headache would be foolish and wastefull.

Well that is what the neurologist prescribed. The thought was that due to accidents in the past it might be skeletal related...

yep, happened to me and permanently fucked my memory up.

The script is for 5mg pills. Is that a heavy dosage for this drug, something to worry about?

How much were you taking? Wow, that is scary, why would the doc prescribe that?

Man lived just fine before all these drugs came along.

I was taking a deathly overdosing amount for 8 months straight. Worst mistake i ever made in my life. I took 20 of the 2mg a day which is unheard of. Don't ask how im alive cause i have no clue. Don't even know what happened during those 8 months.

I know your talking about taking just one but seriously just grab a couple Advil.

Same reason my friends doc gave him a script for 90 xanax a month.

I know. This is actually for a loved one, who suffers daily from painful migraines. They were involved in a severe accident many years ago, and the neurologist thinks it may be related. They have tried everything, chiropracter, diet, you name it, accupuncture, etc, nothing helps...

For a loved one, not me. They have tried everything over the counter and prescription and nothing working...

pharma?.. never trust it.. or you may read the side effects.. and find 10.. you didnt have..

I too sometimes suffer from migraines. A goody powder and a few shots of whiskey and it goes away.

I would advise against it. Those migraines are horrible. My father has them. But those migraines are much better then the risk with this crap. Its easy to get addicted, your memory starts failing. Makes you groggy and sick. Trust me he/she is much better off without it.

Ooops, the script is for .5mg not 5mg, not sure if that makes a difference...

Stick to herbal as much as possible. Much better down the road. Don't put a band-aid, fix the cause.

Don't take this stuff, it will flip your brain...my 86 year old mom took it for bedtime to help her relax and sleep, and did the most crazy shit... hint: if u do take it, buy some rubber bedding, and invest in a bed alarm for your love one to keep a check on ya'.

btw, don't believe what your doctor keeps telling ya' about keep taking it everyday, to build up a dose in your body.

I understand completely. However, like I said they/we have tried virtually everything. The migraines have gotten so bad that they have been missing weeks of work, thank god they have a good and understand employer. They have had MRI's, CAT scans, etc. and nothing is found. They have had blood panel tests, nothing. I could go on... I think they are desperate for anything to work at this stage. I really feel bad for them...

I've got TMJ migraines from hell. Try prescription strength Aleve. It's called Naproxen. 500 mgs...no side effects. Works great. If they get too bad, I take 10 mg. oxycontin.

I have taken klonopin for migraines, and they do help, although thankfully I don't get them frequently anymore.

These drugs (benzos) are also muscle relaxants, and will generally chill you out.

In my case the headaches are debilitating, I have been to the ER for injections of morphine and sodium pentothol ( that will hit you like a ton of bricks btw). I have taken xanax, similar to klonopin, for migraines but always as an adjunct to serious painkillers. Really the only thing that truly works for me are opiate painkillers.

Tried the aleve, it didn't work. Naproxen (Anaprox) doesn;t work either...

They are in a class of drugs called benzodiazepines. Some sister drugs called "xanax" and "valium" are other drugs in this same family with a MUCH shorter half-life.

Suffice it to say, that this drug is VERY effective at masking whatever the problem is. Having said that, it is an incredibly addictive drug. Not in the sense that you "jones", but in the sense that if you don't take it, you could actually end up having a seizure.

I've gotten off this stuff (yes, I had a prescription), both times by weening myself off of it for a period of 6 weeks. It was absolute pure hell.

Makes quitting smoking seem like a fun trip. Seriously. If you "need" it, then you need it. If you don't (and I was misdiagnosed), don't even go there. You've probably got about 1 week of using it regularly before dependence settles in (YMMV).

Yes, my sig other has debilitating migraines. So what type of opiates do you find working? The neurologist wants to see how this works and re-evaluate. I know that her primary care doc sent her to the ER the other day and they gave her some nasal spray that took it away in 30 minutes. Not sure what it was. Thank god for insurance. Cost for non generic is 35 bucks. Without insurance... 1200 bucks!!!! Wow...

Like what? Maybe I can suggest something to the doc? Thanks.
