Klonopin for migraines? | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 26048166 United States 11/13/2012 11:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ooops, the script is for .5mg not 5mg, not sure if that makes a difference... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3558872 Makes a huge difference. .5 is a common starting dosage. They do sometimes prescribe it for migraines, when all other meds have not worked. It's an anti-anxiety med aka benzodiazepine. Thing with this drug is that it is a dependent med, and has a longer 1/2 life than most benzos. Do research & way the risks. Benzos are HPA suppressers (adrenal) drs won't tell you that. Again, if someone's suffering, the goal is to lesson the suffering...but, benzos are not always the answer. Just keep researching on every option & natural remedies. Migraines are awful :( Thanks. What is an HPA suppresser? Sure, the HPA is our Hypothalamus-Pituitary-Adrenal axis. Benzos suppress the adrenal gland function, which have to do with our stress hormones (cortisol) amongst other hormones. When someone goes off of benzos, the HPA (depending on how much suppression there is) can go through a very terrible withdrawal, because the cortisol levels are not functioning normally. If you Bing or Google HPA suppression & benzodiazepine, you'll find many case studies & info related to this. |
Meligrove User ID: 26604792 Canada 11/13/2012 11:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Does that sound right? I thought Klonopin was a powerful drug? Anyone take Klon for migraines? Results? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3558872 No way in hell I'd take Klonopin for Migraines much less anything else! Get yourself on a good fish oil high in dha and Epa. Take 3-4 grams a day . With this regimen I have not had a migraine in 9 months. I was taking the fish oil for other reasons and noticed I had zero migraines since. I truly believe that Omega 3 deficiency plays a hand in Migraines. Good luck and steer clear of Klonopin. The side effects can be devastating! I vouch for this. What you perceive to be is your reality. I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3558872 I knew some kids back in the day who used to take that shit for fun they are FUCKED NOW dude that's like the shit they give to total whack jobs in the mental ward I mean TOTAL whack jobs it's like one of the most hard core anti psychotic meds out there normally they prescribe a narcotic for migraines like Darvocet oh and if your doctor FAILED to disclose this potential side effect to you before prescribing it you should be suing that mother fucker and defiantly not trusting this jackass with your heath go to a different doctor Trin, clonazepam is a benzodiazepine, it targets the GABA receptor, it has more of relaxing effect, not really an AntiPsychotic effect... the GABA receptor is the same receptor that is targeted from alcohol... thats why when you're on a benzodiazapine, you can't drink one or two glasses of alcohol, because it basically gets you drunk. marilyn monroe and all those famous hollywood chicks who took valium and alcohol together died from supposedly that shit because it multiplies the effects synergestically. sn0w |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 3736745 United States 11/15/2012 12:34 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | i was once prescribed Ativan for panic/anxiety, it is more like Xanax than Klonopin b/c it's fast acting. But, they all work the same. I don't remember those 4 months of my life, I'm serious. I would fall asleep standing up, sleep walk and be told I did crazy things and talked gibberish all night, you name it. Id suggest against. I am SO GLAD I stopped before it was a big problem. Now I just use herbal remedies for panic and anxiety, found some really good ones that work wonders. I'd look into diet and maybe there's an herb or plant that would work... |

SewDucky User ID: 23684754 United States 11/15/2012 01:20 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It is also supposed to be taken for less then 4 months because it is hugely addictive. DH was on it for a few years for panic disorder. He took 2 mg 3 times a day. I take 1 mg Xanax as needed for my panic attacks (same thing with time). I have had mine for over a year, but I don't take it all that often, and certainly not enough to be addicted to it. My doc also makes me come in for tests before he'll renew it. I have yet to need a refill. I'd be careful. And I get migraines. Most of the time Tylenol migraine taken with a cup of coffee when I feel them first coming on can alleviate the worst of it, and usually 30 minutes after taking it I can function again. |

There are many far, far safer drugs for migraine. Cannabis. Propranolol. [link to www.independent.co.uk] "Secret documents reveal that government-funded experts were warned nearly 30 years ago that tranquillisers that were later prescribed to millions of people could cause brain damage. The Medical Research Council (MRC) agreed in 1982 that there should be large-scale studies to examine the long-term impact of benzodiazepines after research by a leading psychiatrist showed brain shrinkage in some patients similar to the effects of long-term alcohol abuse." Shrooms are safer than benzos, for that matter: [link to www.thedailybeast.com] "Drug taboos may block a potential treatment for cluster headaches, one of the most painful conditions known" Get another doctor. |

Anyhoo, Klonopin gives me more relief from migraines than anything else. I don't take it for migraines but imagine my delight when it set my migraine on the run! EmmAlie_S |

Quoting: ^TrInItY^ that shit can give you PERMANENT tics you know, uncontrollable muscle movement? Seriously? No it doesn't. I've taken mild doses for years. No ticks. Lol I do get migraines, and I have to take Exedrin. I never heard of Clonopoin for headaches, but who knows. They love marketing one drug for many symptoms so this may be a new thing they're doing. Clonopin is very safe. Just as with anything else, do not abuse it. SPEAK UP. SILENCE IS DEADLY! I am currently experiencing life at several WTFs per hour. |
tk23 User ID: 69225061 United States 05/14/2015 01:55 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Klonopin (clonazepam) is used to control seizures in epilepsy and for the treatment of panic disorder. Taking them for a headache would be foolish and wastefull. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 20574169 A migraine is exponentially different from a run of the mill headache. Klonopin can help by suppressing over reactions of neurons, which can cause the severe pain of a migraine. A headache is just random muscle pain on the cranium. That CAN be cured with tylenol, ibuprofen, or asprin. Migraines are in their own boat, the are pretty much one step under a minor seizure, which cannot be treated the way a headache can. Clinically, anti-seizure medication is used to help treat the effects of chronic migraines. |
