I wouldn't encourage a stampede if I were you. There is a major housing shortage because of the boom... and they have cracked down HARD on rogue RV parking. So unless u've been invited by an oil company willing to supply temporary housing... ur screwed. Winters are extremely harsh here... and if ur unprepared you wouldn't last a week. Ur chances of survival would be better if you went to Barrow, AK. Seriously.

Last I heard there was 400 apartments available in Dickinson. Although you'll be paying $1200 for a SMALL 1 bed studio. The price for a new house is pretty crazy. 10 years half will be empty. Word is most of the corporate guys ect are buying up property in Fargo / Grand Forks and just commuting for the weekend.

Be careful. If north dakota is too successful, the unemployed hungry liberal hordes will descend like a swarm of locusts destroying everything around them.

That has been the pattern everywhere. They invaded CA from the northeast and from Mexico and then from CA they invaded the Pacific Northwest, Colorado and New Mexico.

Your bank and your freedoms will then be gone.

Spot on correct. Barrow, AK has some tempering effect from the Arctic Sea. Those Canadian Clipper arctic blasts that rip through the upper Great Plains are another level of hurt. It's American Siberia.

400 apartments??? Not true. Temporary man camps... outside city limits... for oilfield employees only. Several new motels. Homes around town have been rented/reserved by the oilfield for some upper crust employees who traverse the oilfield. They even have a brand new multi-million dollar corporate headquarters located in the area. But 400 available apartments is NOT TRUE.

NOTHING IS AVAILABLE TO NON-OILFIELD PERSONNEL around here anymore... and won't be for years to come.

That's a good start. -22F is still snowmobile weather. -40F and below is a punch in the face. It gets down to -65F in northern Minnesota, on the Iron Range.

True. The average Chicagoan would be stunned by how much colder. The really nasty thing is the wind chill; those arctic blasts roar for hundreds of miles, unchecked. It's not unheard of to get -100F wind chills in parts of North Dakota.

That's not going to happen. North Dakota is too cold in the winter. The useless eaters don't want to get cold. You can't live under a bridge at 40 below. When I lived in Carpio, the bums didn't even come through in the summer time. I don't know if they were afraid of the weather or the mosquitoes. An insect with a tail number is a sight to see.

Born in Grand Forks and have been working out of Dickinson for over a year. It might not be 400 (heard through the grape vine) but people aren't willing to pay the rent for a studio. And it does take sometime to sell the houses. $250,000 - $300,000 for just over 1500 sq ft is kind of a shock for most people in the state. South West North Dakota seems to have slowed abit since this summer. Williston/Tioga/Watford City/New Town are still balls to the wall.

The Bank of ND farce as a solution to the nations problem has been going on for awhile. For a good portion of the life of The B of ND, it was a money pit. It cost more to run then to operate. Second, money is NOT given back to the citizens. We may get a slightly better rate on a loan but, it is the credit guidelines are far more strict.

As far as rentals in Dickinson, I own a few properties. A trailer will easily rent for 2500 month in town, and 2000 in the surrounding communties all the way out to hettinger and morton counties.

The state-owned Bank of North Dakota

Fiscal conservatives often are blind when it comes to alternatives to the "so called" commercial banking system. Many conventional Republicans are ignorant or simply carrying the water for the crony capitalist banking establishment. The fractional reserve banking monopoly that operates under the auspices of the privately owned Federal Reserve System, despises any trace of competition. The bondage from debt created money has doomed Main Street to the fate of contrite beggars in search of securing loans. Useful purposes for business financing are not sufficient reason for the qualifying for commercial credit.
Is there an alternative to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. and centralized banking dominated by Wall Street investment banksters? Can state chartered commercial banks compete separate from the favoritism shown to the "Not Too Big To Fail" money centered banks? Well, Ellen Hodjson Brown JD, has popularized the subject of the state-owned bank and believes there is a better model for community banking.

"The secret of its success seems to be the state-owned Bank of North Dakota, which was established by the state legislature in 1919 specifically to free farmers and small businessmen from the clutches of out-of-state bankers and railroad men. By law, the state must deposit all its funds in the bank, and the state guarantees its deposits. The bank’s stated mission is to deliver sound financial services that promote agriculture, commerce and industry in North Dakota. The bank operates as a bankers’ bank, partnering with private banks to loan money to farmers, real estate developers, schools and small businesses. It loans money to students (over 184,000 outstanding loans), and it purchases municipal bonds from public institutions."
