Even the most hardened criminal wants to comfort his Mom when she is falling apart in front of him.
His crime was heinous but that doesn't necessarily mean she was a bad Mom, sometimes shit just happens in life.
My Uncle was a murderer, but his Mom was a GOD fearing good woman. He had an imbalance and wouldn't take his meds but would drink and do drugs.
You can't see his movements because the camera was on her, but if he made a move towards her like he was going to her they would have reacted that way.
Then again, he could have been making a run for it, but I doubt it.
