I don't understand... does the family realize what their family member did? Or do they just don't care?

I can understand why she's crying her heart out, after raising such a son. Yeah, I would just think they'd realize their son was evil when they realized he basically raped an innocent person then disintigrated their head with a shotgun. It's an emotional thing, not an intellectual one.
