Yerba Mate causes cancer!

Some studies link it with hot temperatures, not with Mate itself, and it is said that normal tea also can cause cancer if drunk very hot: [link to news.bbc.co.uk]

PS: I remember a talk with one guy from UK who was very drunk. He said in whisper: "You know, I adore all you non-english speaking people who can speak english! We, english-speaking people - don't need to know any other language and our part of brain which is used for learning new languages is dead. I can't even imagine what it's like to speak two languages". So please be more indulgent :) It isn't easy.

It's known that those studies linking Mate to cancer were only dealing with a specific type of people--those who drink their Mate at very high temperatures and/ or were smokers.

If one were to really make the claim, "Drinking Yerba Mate causes cancer," I believe that the Mate leaves themselves would need to be studied for any inherent carcinogenic properties. If anyone has a study related to this, please pass it my way!

In any case, as most people say, many things in this world that we consume daily may be "cancerous."

Drink unsmoked Mate if you're worried!

don't listen to that prick OP Seems to be that over 90% of all Americans can not speak another language. It is very surprising that large segments of the populace in foreign countries speak English. I don't know why people have to correct when they understand exactly what your saying anyhow

Sometimes they use artificial sweetners.

But I have read, that too much yerba mate, can be toxic to the kidneys.

It also stains.

Things that stain, leave residue.

This residue can cause build up.

Build up causes cancer.

I very much doubt that yerba mate causes cancer. I've lived in Argentina for most of the past four years, and Argentinians drink more mate than anyone else in the world, with the possible exception of Uruguayans, and there is very little cancer here compared to the U.S. If mate caused cancer, the cancer rates in Argentina would be sky high, given the amount of mate people here consume.
