Quoting: recollector Actually, no. You take only cereals in account, and France and Germany do only import agriculture products that can't be grown there, and products that are way cheaper abroad and they can't compete with (especially the Asian countries). But when needed, the fertile soil in these countries is perfectly useful for intensive agriculture. It's just economical wise not interesting, apart from grain, milk and meat. The whole discussion started because the south have MUCH MORE resources than the north.I was merely pointed the FOOD domain only. Germany and France are URBANIZED and INDUSTRIALIZED countries.Their agriculture land is poor and they pretty much cultivate all the land they CAN CULTIVATE.They had nothing more left, because much of what was agricultural land 50 years ago, is now occupied with cities, industries, roads. They need to BULDOZE alot in order to have MORE land to cultivate...as opposite to the tiny countries of Greece and Ireland. You cannot just dismiss the data by just telling: "But when needed, the fertile soil in these countries is perfectly useful for intensive agriculture." There is no more land left, fertile or not, in France and Germany (especially Germany). Ireland and Greece have togheter a population of 15 million, while France and Germany have 140 million togheter...their cereal production is almost the same, escept almost 10 TIMES MORE people AND also 10 times more LAND. Yes, it is "only" cereal, but those cereals represent BOTH food for humans AND food for animals, animals that will also become food for humans. 15 million people living on 150,000 square km. are producing same quantity of cereals (aka food) as 140 million people living on 1,200,000 square km. This are the facts when we talk about who will starve first if the South goes down and STOP exporting food and food related products. And not some sci-fi beleiefs that France and Germany have some fertile land that they don't use... EU riot police is also here dressed up as a Greek one. Agree about the fiscal union, this is their plan, hope all we Europeans resist it. Greece won't pay back for sure, it's being set up to be the first domino for a symbolism perspective, cradle of civilization, democracy and all that. Greece's problem is more of a geopolitical and oil/gas/gold related than purely economic one imo, you have EU, US, Russia, China, Turkey all fighting for a piece and unfortunately we are helpless in the middle of it. |
