Agree with my american friend.

Splitting EU will not only benefit the south, but actually hit the north quite hard.
The South have also THE FOOD that Europe eats.

So, add hunger to the freezing winter and you will had plenty of mad vikings.
 Quoting: recollector

The south is net importer, see EU statistics.

Milk, grains and meat are imported from the north up to one third.

Exports are stuff that is nice to have .. but i think we can all live without olives and strawberries.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 331367

Yes but this was imposed on them since joining the Euro.

Their mistake was taking handouts instead of remaining sovereign.

Now you want the handouts back. Tough go away!!! just like they made the mistake of taking the handouts (from a moral perspective) you also made the mistake of giving it in the first place.

Nothing was imposed.

They just can not compete (for various mostly cultural reasons) on a free market.

But do not worry, no more hand-outs in the future.

Don't feed the trolls.

American's and Canadians talk about changing things. Then we sit back and watch how real people go about making change.

If America could unite, in force, on just ONE single issue like they do in Europe - stand up and march in the streets everywhere, then perhaps something in America would change.

Thank goodness, in this case. OWS was misguided and infiltrated to the core. Now if just plain old Americans had gotten together back in 2008 before all of that TARP shit started, THEN maybe some real change would have happened on Wall Street and in the Banks. Bitching at the Bankers wasn't the way. Congress was the way and we should have all been standing there.

Austria's most famous exports:

Adolph Hitler

Arnold Schwarzenegger

dasbier

Seriously, southern Europe could grow it's own food, including milk, grains, and meat.

And northern Europe could certainly grow it's own supply of strawberries, olives in greenhouses.

The next stage in Europe won't be these kind of strikes, it will be like what happened in the UK in the summer of 2011. Most people outside (and inside) the UK still don't realise what actually happened, why it happened, how close the authorities came to losing control nationwide and how vulnerable the entire edifice of civilisation and all of it's infrastructure was.

In a nutshell the 2011 disorder in the UK was younger people who basically just said a big fat "fuck it all".

The only solution to it all is to burn it to the ground and start again. Even if you ignore the southern European countries and cast them off, the north will still collapse. The actual system is a fraud. Anyone who can do basic maths can see it can't work. Why are some of you still clinging to completely fraudulent ideology and economic theory? What part of "its dead" do you not get?

The younger generations won't sit there and take it when they wake up and realise their future is a false promise. More and more are realising it. It will end up in mass violence; its the only way.

This has always been about bailing out the big guys and fucking over the little people. Endless whining about 'entitlements' [referring of course to social benefits], but the real big money in entitlements goes to big business from financial services to big agriculture. It dwarfs social entitlements.

I'm not saying getting people hooked on endless entitlements is from a social standpoint a good thing, it cause many problems, but like I said it dwarfs the amounts of hand outs to big business and our massive military-industrial complex.

What system will be imposed if this occurs?

I live in Greece for 4 months out of the year. Do i agree that the political elite need to be hanged at Syntagma? Yes together with the other elites that have taken over.

And who should view this? The children of Greece so they understand what happens to traitors.

Now the firefighters that are striking today... are they fat lazy people getting handouts? what about the nurses/ambulance drivers/Dr's.

You need to take a reality check people of the North of Europe and start blaming the people that are to blame, instead of an entire populace.

These handouts you refer to. They do not go to the people. 83% has been going to the elites and the other banks of Europe. So you are hypocrites as all your doing is giving fake money to your own banks and nation states whilst pandering this Euro BS.

And the northern European banks were massively involved in this fraud in places like Spain. They knew perfectly well massive fraud was going on. And they got their bailouts from the U.S. Federal Reserve. I didn't hear any German or others whining when they grabbed their bailouts. I didn't hear anyone whining that the Germans and others should have known better and that they should take their medicine. No, that got a complete bailout of their private gambling losses with public money. I'm referring to the big banks and financial institutions of course, but private citizens in places like Germany greatly benefited for decades from this bank fraud, it was one of the main pillars of their economies, along with exporting to other EU nations.

What? Are you utterly retarded? What 'drew them back into the system' is a non question. What made the violence subside was flooding the streets with police (something that was going to be impossible to sustain or expand beyond the existing trouble spots). The violence petered out but the reasons for it are still there, have got worse and affect more people. A breakdown is not going to be a clean thing. There will be riots and disorder, they will stop, they will start again, and stop, and start again.. then one time they won't stop. They will reach critical mass and have a life of their own.

I've explained again and again how, if the violence hadn't have been stamped out - by force as it was - when it was. If it had of just continued for a few more days or spread quicker so that more areas were involved, then the MET in London would not have been able to draw on the reserves from TWENTY SEVEN other British police forces. They would have failed to regain control of London. The people who weren't looting and rioting, those held up in their apartments, would have run out of food and been forced to join in looting to get essentials. The logistics would have broken down - buses had already been pulled from most places - do you think logistics companies would have kept sending in trucks to a lawless area? They would have been lining up on the M40 and M1 - outside of London. As people started to defend their own streets - as they were starting to do on the last day - violence would have spread.

Gangs and other criminals would have seized advantage and stoked the fire (just as they did in the break-up of Yugoslavia). This would have spread nationwide. Once the food and fuel supplies stopped there would be no turning back - "anarchy in the UK" (to quote the Sex Pistols) would have become a reality.

You see, in these things there are masses of people who wait to see which way the wind is blowing before they join in. It happens in all aspects of life. When they saw vital services and supplies breaking down a lot of people would have joined in.

You are right, it started as blacks just looking for an excuse to riot, but it had the potential to turn into something completely different and very nearly did. Given the growing anger amongst the young especially, and the cuts to police etc, do you seriously think that it won't happen again, and when it does, do you seriously think it will just 'die out' again?

Re: portugal, spain, greece totally full stop today, 16 other countries also on strike. europe shutting down
And the northern European banks were massively involved in this fraud in places like Spain.

The younger generation sits there doing nothing since decades in these countries. They are just angry that they can't continue doing it.

It is the truth.

I take any any pole, czech, or guy from hungary before taking an italian, spanish ..

Lazy loudmouths .. all of them.

Only thing driving them is how to get the most for the least effort.

Trust me.

I know very well what i am talking about.

Because it is not the hours you work that matter as the "poor south" always blames .. oh we work so many hours more than you !

It is productivity and efficiency.
