Not trying to. This is confrontational constructive criticism and I hope to motivate the lad with a combination of anger and shame. Seriously, I freelance, from home and I make good money. I could easily resettle in Portugal and do exactly the same thing. Why can't he?

Have you ever lived in Portugal? How about Germany or somewhere else? Many times it isn't what you know, it is who you know that will determine if you even get a spot at the table. (depending on where you live). Using anger and shame to motivate someone down on their luck is akin to pouring gasoline on fire. Leave psychology 101 for those who know how to use it and stick to what you are good at.
Also, a kind word here and there and a few words of sympathy works wonders for motivation.

Malaysia, Thailand, Spain, Germany, The Canary Islands, Peru, Norway and the Philippines. I've seen it all and one constant in the world is NECESSITY IS THE MOTHER OF INVENTION. Hungry kid to feed and you'll soon find the money by hook or by crook. Or you could cry your eyes out on an internet forum.

why dont you address the REAL reason people are protesting? see the news this evening? they were burning the EU flag. THAT is the cause of the madness

coz theyre not ALL lazy are they? or are they? you seem to think so

is it ok that democracy is dead here? what about TPTB wanting a collective pay raise when everyone else has to buckle down again? do you believe that greece will ever be free of debt? and if not, was this really the fault of the 'lazy' people? etc etc etc

there are 101 questions or constructive points you could make, but no, you come along to criticise those people who are standing up for EVERYONE, even callous, clueless bints like yourself

I am only criticising attitude, this is not character assasination. Look out of your front window and the chances are you'll see some random act of anti-social behaviour, immigrants taking over the street and your local jobs market, go to Tescos and watch the armies of shoplifters. You and I might have our moans about the status quo but what the hell is that going to achieve? nada. I wont address the problems in Portugal because they're endemic in one way or another to every country in the world. We have our share of worries in the UK, and daily in Peru I see people either dying in the street or becomgin stinking rich vbecause they see the signs early. here or there it's all the same. I just want Mr Portugal to realise that screaming blue murder about policies that he, you or I can't possible ever hope to change, wont change his situation, only action will.
