The Egyptian authorities have granted permission to the convoy to make the crossing, and arround 550 activists have already crossed. You can hear the mechanical movements of the cannons if you listen. The first round of sounds is always uniform. The sounds of them landing are not uniform because targets are at varying distances from ship. My husband sent me a map and is now explaining where everything is, how it got that way, and where we are at today. This is amazingly complicated. But at least I have an understanding of the geography, now, so I don't feel quite as stupid. Thanks for your subtle prodding, ISO :) My husband was curious why I wanted to know all of this all of a sudden. When I told him he just said, "It's about time!" The first demand was that Hamas commit to creating a 1-kilometer buffer zone along the border with Gaza, beyond which people cannot enter. The width of the “no-man’s-land” currently varies at different points along the border, and averages about 300 meters. The second condition laid down by Israel was that Hamas put an end to all weapons smuggling into the Gaza Strip.
