I think the pressure on Likud is Cairo's inability to control Sinai. The Sinai aspires to be independent, apparently, and since the "Arab Spring" having fought ferociously against Mubarak they arent letting up against the new govt. Since Egypt used enable Likud's blockade of Gaza, their absence has made Gaza/Sinai trade a booming business. You cant have a national security policy that depends on a blockade of Gaza that doesnt work. I think Israel is a bit desperate,,, and they dont know what else to do.. That's Israel's motivation to attack. They are trying to return to the status quo before the "Arab Spring", re a brutal blockade where they controlled what went in and out of Gaza. |
