No not really. The Muslim areas (such as Beeston and Harehills) are still Muslim, the Jewish areas (Alwoodley, Moortown and Roundhay) are still Jewish. The biggest changes have come about due to a massive influx of Africans and Eastern Europeans. For instance in 2001 in the Armley area of Leeds, there were very few Eastern Europeans and no 'Eastern European food shops' Now on the high street in Armley there are six or seven 'Eastern European' shops, and every second person you see is usually Polish or Lithuanian etc. And on a sunny day in the city centre you'd think you were in Soweto or Lagos.

Universities aren't whole sale liberal strong holds. It depends on the department. In my own university the sociology department is 100% liberal, while the geography and history departments are mostly conservative.
