ViperSmart User ID: 28026441 Canada 11/19/2012 02:45 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The ultimatum could just be a PR move, I have a gut feeling that that decision to go in has been made before the first bomb ever dropped. Quoting: ViperSmart 28026441 Going in is silly without an objective. I think their objective is to re-occupy. Probably they will take total control and go house to house if they have to. They will encounter resistance at first, but eventually whatever Hamas has managed to smuggle in the way of anti-tank rockets and such will be used up and there will be nothing left to them. Israel will destroy the smuggling tunnels, and set troops up on the Egyptian border and then slowly find everything, every gun, every rocket, everything... I'm not cheer leading here either, just what I think makes sense, if I was Israel this is what i would do. From their perspective they must crush Hamas and get rid of every last rocket, and this will require reoccupation. |

Likud forces arent capable of such an ambitious project IMHO -- house to house aimlessly looking for weapons? Nah! It will certainly be the tunnels. They'll find what they can, destroy them,, then retreat -- or maybe they'll stay and risk the wrath of both Gaza and Sinai protecting their commercial trade? Dangerous. Hamas military has already depleted their supply of missiles, which may have been another Likud objective. So both those limited objectives buys time. But why, you may ask? Good question. |

Suppose a dirty bomb is set off in God forbid Israel. Then where would the dirty materials have come from? Maybe Syria, or Iran, or even Egypt. Then it really is on like donk kong. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27142624 I guess it all depends on what they have managed to get in so far as far as smuggling goes... I have thought this too, that Israel is purposely trying to get them to use up all of their weapons, eat them up with Iron dome and then isolate them. I think it might get more dangerous for them than they might expect trying to close up the tunnels and "starve them out"... I think Hamas may have anti tank rockets from Iran, which will not be a good thing for the IDF obviously, and if they simply choke them off of anything coming from Egypt and wait them out the Arabic world is going to scream bloody murder. Of course I am no general, this may all be a smokescreen or the start of some much, much bigger move, like attacking Iran. Who knows, but it sure as hell is interesting to watch. |

Thanks, SP After this, not a chance....they were obviously the aggressor here. And how's that working out for them? I hope you're right because I am thinking if they get recognition they can arm themselves to the hilt with all kinds of nasty stuff. I don't care you if like Jews or not. It pretty clear that Gaza is 99.94% hate and these people if given WNDs they would use them. |

I think the pressure on Likud is Cairo's inability to control Sinai. They are independent, apparently. Since Egypt used to enabled Likud's blockade of Gaza, their absence has made Gaza/Sinai trade a booming business. You cant have a national security policy that depends on a blockade of Gaza that doesnt work. I think Israel is a bit desperate,,, and they dont know what else to do.. |
