Saddam Hussein came out on a balcony in Baghdad and declared victory after Operation Desert Storm.

That was a genuine political and military defeat for Iraq, which made Hussein's comments all the more ludicrous. It was a facade for morale, obviously.

This, however, is not a defeat for Hamas - on the contrary.

The Iraqi army was a shell after 1991: the next time Israel and Hamas go at it (energised by its deepening alliances with Hezbollah, Iran, Egypt and the rest), the latter will be in a stronger position than it is currently.
