Imagine, if his testimony incriminates someone in office, this could be huge.

I can say this much, some high level position require marriage and have an affair. If they talk, disclose or plain old disobey.....their wives are hurt and the family broken.

This is how to control people with sensitive information.

Twisted? Not really, much cleaner then killing people who talk or their families.

Career military officers are generally men with a code of honour. Believe what you will, but Patreaus WILL tell the truth.

So they have got "their" story strait and have threatened Petraeus that if he tells the truth he will die from a heart attack or mystery illness?
At this point we will never know the whole truth, but it will be interesting to hear what he says.. or is it a closed hearing? Thats okay, we can trust Congress to take care of everything for us..

Yeah, as I remember it Cheney WAS supposed to testify, but was too busy planning the Iraq invasion or something.

He already resigned so why not tell the truth?

I hope he doesn't either, but this involves a bit more than revelations of his sexual escapades. What he could reveal will bring down the whole pile of crap on the deserving asses in the White House. People have disappeared for less. I would assume he has good security.

Seems Petraeus is volunteering to testify. I think the General is going to go scorched earth on little Barry the homo.

He will tell the truth in a closed hearing - everyone in the hearing will be put under a gag order in the interest of national security. Petraeus will then be arrested for revealing classified info (since he is now a private citizen) and made an example of.

Because of the risk of life and limb for hiimself and his family. The guy only stepped down just a matter of days before he was scheduled to testify. That in and of itself is cause for question. Whatever he might say was so bad that he was either willing to admit serious personal failure or was threatened with uncontrolled exposure of it to try to get out of testifying.

Nothing he says at this point is credible.

And possibly to keep him from testifying. There is no doubt he will tell the truth. Unless he pleads the 5th. Which, with his dedication to the country I kind of doubt. He swore to uphold the constitution and safety of the US...

Though with the positions he has held he knows that risk is there testimony or not. It's possible he was under threat of blackmail and decided to cancel that threat from ever happening in the future by outing his dirty laundry so it could never be held over his head again.

Oh sure. That is plausible especially if he is a man of honor (affair not withstanding). Damage is done though. The Chicago thug Whitehouse has pulled off another successful hit job by ruining someone's credibility and limiting their exposure to the truth again.

True, though with his mistress sharing information to various people that the compound was a jail, etc. there is back up to what he may share.

It kind of seems that all this happened after he gave the OK for the military officer to share that Petraeus did not give the stand down order, that it came from further up. Which perked a lot of ears.

Obama ordered that shit. And then watched it happen in real time.
