Huge thick high tech cables are attached to dishes for the satelites. They are under ground and run into the buildings that house all the computors that talk to the satelites.

How do you people think things work. Are people really that stupid. I guess they are.

Russia has been having alot of seismic activity therefore its not inconciebvable that a cable broke. Hello. Get a grip.

doom off.

A communications cable serving the Russian space agency's mission control was cut by construction workers but the accident has not affected the International Space Station or civilian satellites, the U.S. and Russian space agencies said Wednesday.

I stopped worrying about Russia. They're on their own.

Doom off for Russia..back to the other thread.

Re: FLASH: Russia loses contact with most of its civilian satellites, International Space Station after cable breaks: RIA News Agency!!!
So a cable breaks and they lose contact with nearly all their civilian satellites and the space station?....

Dont mean to be a bit doom-tardy or a sensationalist but I find it hard to believe that something so important as access to virtually their entire satellite network and their space station has a weak point like A SINGLE CABLE that all comm's are routed through, that if broken brings the lot down. I mean surely for something so important there's backups... and backups to the backups?

Now I'm fairly sure that if it was some muffa-fukka of all cosmic events or similar then it wouldn't just be Russia's satellites that would have gone down, the whole sha'bang would be dark by now, but their excuse still don't wash with me.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 26336125

YEP this is hard to believe.

I`m a sparky, I`ve built quite a few data centers, internet backbone switch buildings and NASA communications.

Every one has redundent systems.
Electrical back up consists of DC battery banks, uninteruptable power supply`s, huge cat generators X3 all with autamatic transfer switching that keeps power flowing before even a 60cycle per second interuption can happen.

All communication lines are redundent incoming to the switches and outgoing.

Air conditioning is redundant too lol.

Just doesn`t seem plausable..

Yes, it has been off and on like that for a bit. The first pix I posted this morning were much like that only much bigger.

...

Educated guess?
 Quoting: Plenty Paws

I have seen a fair few good size hits by chance on there. But I would not go so far as to say educated. The other thing with this is it has been going on for hours now.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27737122

SO if it's been going on for hours that would mean that whatever it is is constantly hitting the atmosphere...not like a meteor strike that lasts only a second?

That doesn't sound like an object but rather a signal or beam or something. Could it be haarp?

That is not what a typical meteor looks like.
 Quoting: Plenty Paws
i still haven't been able to figure out what is going on with it. i posted a couple threads somewhere else to see if someone who knew such things would come there but no luck. the ones who did come were baffled. did you see the post where i said one day for several hours all the atmospheric noise vanished? it wasn't a glitch because a few streaks like the ones today showed up. got any ideas what is going on??
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27301441

They are measuring intensity and frequency. The meteor signature is a straight line of travel.
Anomalies are reflected radio-waves that are detected by the system, at different frequencies.

We have beaucoup signals bouncing around.
IMO.
I'm not an expert... but I play one on GLP...chuckle
 Quoting: Waterbug

the many signals would prob be the atmospheric noise, the blue at the bottom of the grid. i have watched this all day every day for a few months and it is the anomalies that interest me, there is just not that many of them, and when they do occur they are very strange. keep a watch on it for a week and you will see what i mean.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27301441

Yeah.. me, too. Been watching it on and off since it came online.
The fact that the signatures don't match the normal meteor signatures tells me that anomalous signals are being detected...
They just don't explain where they are coming from.

Maybe they don't know, either.

perhaps Israel has hacked Russia's electronics, then they attack Iran ... Russia cannot retailiate until they have comms again with their satelittes .... then by that time, the war is over??

but like I said ... I'm just guessing .... what's strange is that China and the US don't have the same problem??
