At least that one got out alive.

Our nanny state provides barriers in many stations here so that we can get high, listen to our iPod, and not die.

Oh please. Your nanny state? Ours is just as bad. I get on sometimes at an above ground commuter rail stop that has barriers dividing the tracks through the entire station; when you get off you can't just cut across the tracks, they didn't create a crossing, you have to walk the full length of the station [a good 600 feet or more] to cross over to the other side and get onto the street.

People are regularly getting hit and killed while walking along the tracks with their headphones, sleeping on the tracks, committing suicide. Seriously, it's an epidemic. Of course they're petrified of civil lawsuits. You'd think a simple big ass sign warning people would be enough.
