| Anonymous Coward User ID: 26156016 11/14/2012 12:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You've received some terrible advice so far. I have lupus so I know what this ugly thing is about. There are different kinds of lupus, and they all range in severity from mild to moderate to severe. Do you know what kind she has? The mildest form is cutaneous, which basically affects the skin. SLE is the more aggressive one and the worst kind to have is the one where you have a high dsDNA antibody because that is the one that tends to attack organs. That's the one I have. It sucks. With all autoimmune disorders there seems to be an underlying Vitamin D deficiency for some reason. Get her to take a multivitamin every day and 800 to 1000 mg of Vitamin D. Make sure she avoids stress at all costs, since stress causes flares. Lupus med 'Plaquenil' has saved my life so far. Tell her to get a Rheumotologist she trusts. That matters a lot. |

Get a good omega 3-6-9 supplement. it is essential and will prevent strokes...The underlying cause of all autoimmune disease is through the small intestine/digestive track... 70% of the immune system is located in the gut...It's mainly due to wheat/gluten intolerance....tell your friend it's in almost all processed, box/jar products, even processed meats... good luck... |

| Geo777 User ID: 21201441 11/14/2012 01:02 PM ![]() Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have had lupus for 22 years, and I can tell you a lot about it. I can tell you that she need not try natural remedies as they are really just throwing the money down the toilet when it comes to this disease. I can tell you that its activity in the body is related to a bacteria called mycoplasma, which was discovered by a rheumatologist, Dr. Brown, about 60 years ago. A book she should read is titled "The New Arthritis Breakthrough", by Henry Scammell. Check local library listings or Amazon.com for it. It caused me to fight for my life for many years as I didn't have medical coverage for a long time after I got it so I didn't know what was attacking my body or that it was so serious. It finally destroyed my kidneys which was like a house of cards that kept crumbling and I was in and out of the hospital. I finally got a transplant, but it was really hard on my health, long story. To protect her kidneys, she needs to begin using flax seed oil capsules, you can get them at a Costco or other health foods store. Keep them refrigerated. A study showed that it protects the kidney from the nephrotic damage common in some lupus patients. Secondly, stress management is crucial, as is diet. Avoid wheat and dairy, if possible, and also nightshade vegetables (google it), anything to do with alfalfa or its sprouts, melatonin supplements, sulfa drugs, tobacco, alcohol, echinacea, and anything else that is described as an immune booster supplement or food, especially those that really boost it, such as Hemp protein, etc. Stimulating the immune system will stimulate the disease. This disease causes the bones where our blood cells and other cells come from to overproduce antibodies that fight and attack our own DNA/tissues, etc. It can attack our blood cells causing them to be unhealthy leading to abnormal clotting or bleeding, it can cause inflammation of the brain (the worst type of lupus), called CNS lupus, it can attack the heart, the skin, hair follicles, anywhere blood goes, lupus goes, each person is different. But, not to worry, if she is diagnosed early and can use the alternative antibiotic protocol for rheumatic disease to get it under control, she can sidetrack the awful steroids and eventually chemo (if the kidneys or brain get attacked too much) and stabilize herself. Lupus activity is VERY similar to the effects on the body of lyme disease - the achiness, the low grade fevers, the fatigue. This is because Lupus activity and Lymp Disease activity are both related to the BACTERIA element as a trigger for the body's responses. Lower the bacteria levels, lower the disease activity - save the patient. It SICKENS me that doctors are not employing this method with their patients more - it also works for RA, Diabetes, Ankylosing Spondylitis, Juvenile RA, Scleroderma, a number of diseases that are auto-immune related respond to the reduction of the mycloplasma bacteria load on the patient's system. It's so simple. I found the treatment very helpful, but I was so far along when I got on it, and I didn't have proper medical management and had issues. If she goes to roadback.org, she can find out all about the treatment, how to help herself, and help finding a doctor that does the protocol. It has been used at the Mayo Clinic for Scleroderma, so it's not just some whacko science. It is the only treatment I found that actually addresses the "cause" of the lupus activity. Main stream medicine doesn't get it and they just blast the sick immune system with heavy chemo-type drugs (immunosuppression) to get the immune system to back off, rather than going at the root of the problem. Unfortunately, this method also has serious side effects for the patient and leaves them miserable. Hope that helps some. I also recommend that she find out her blood type and follow the blood type diet. I myself use Sovereign Silver Colloidal Silver 10ppm if I have a flare-up, to knock down the bacteria counts, and it works quite well. I don't use it a lot, just as needed. I hope this is helpful to her and that she fares well. Lupus doesn't have to win, if you arm yourself with much knowledge and advocate for yourself, think for yourself. There are also many good books on lupus, although the antibiotic protocol is something that most lupus patients are never told about. I share it with as many as I can. And it is not as scary as it sounds, so many people are turned off by antibiotics - but this is a very low-dose protocol, nothing like when you take them for an illness. The side effects that usually come with antibiotics are really kept at bay. Geo777 |

I think I know how painful, depressed and lost she feels right now. ((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))) I love that book, but I had a serious issue with the section on Lupus, and I wrote the authors of the book with my concerns. They were recommending alfalfa for the patients in supplement form. I wrote to tell them that alfalfa in ANY form is highly toxic and dangerous. See, I was all into health supplements when I had lupus but didn't know what it was for many years. I had begun to take alfalfa tablets thinking they were a "green" food and would help me be healthy. They made my inflammation SOOO bad, it was excruciating, and it made my disease attack my kidneys hard and fast, probably led to my kidney failure. I had no idea of any of this, without a diagnosis. One day, I ran out of my current bottle, and had no real desire to get more. I'm so glad I didn't, or I may not have made it. I looked at the subsequent issue after I wrote them (some time ago) and they still hadn't made the changes. I think now they finally have gotten it right, but I was pretty disappointed that they were giving such toxic advice to people with lupus. My friend told me he was at the military commissary to eat lunch and they even had a sign on the salad bar warning people with autoimmune diseases to not eat the alfalfa sprouts! I also used to have difficulties when I'd go to our local vitamin/health foods market and they would try to recommend things to me, and I'd have to educate them on why it was bad for someone with lupus. You cannot trust their recommendations as most of those people working in the vitamin stores do not know about this disease and are not licensed professionals of any kind, they just take some training and classes at best. I had gone to an alternative medicine MD for help, as conventional medicine was lacking, so he had me do a test that showed ALL the different hormones of my body and how they were doing, what I needed to fix, supplement, etc., to get back in balance. DHEA is one level that is often way too low in Lupus patients, and supplementing with 7-Keto has been recommended to help this imbalance. I saw someone mention taking D, D3 is the best one I've found. But, it is important to be seeing a doctor and getting your calcium levels checked so your calcium doesn't go too high on the D. That just happened to me. As calcium itself goes, supplements are dangerous and can lead to heart disease, best supplementation is getting it from food sources which you can research. Geo777 |
