Americans are unhappy these days...
...and I think it's a good thing. I mean, before this country was even officially founded, people were coming here precisely because they were unhappy where they were. This is a nation of malcontents, and our entire legacy is about forcing our leaders to change when things aren't right. Violent overthrow is so 18th Century, but that's ok. We've built into our national DNA a system of change and the ability of each individual to make his or her voice heard. So things don't always go our way. So what! We have the right to petition the federal government if we feel we are wronged. Government of the people, by the people, for the people is messy! We live in the greatest country in the world precicesly because of this. The only way we lose that lofty status is if we forget these founding principles.

No, humans have always been idiots. We have a system in which the idiots have the same voice as everyone else, in which the ignorant can improve himself and everything around him if he has the will to see it through.
