Otherwise, we will never be able to quit working. Of the 401k, I have 30% emerging markets and 30% international. This way, I am trying to protect some of my money. Can't bring myself to buy any bonds. Your Dad doesn't have any income except what he is saving or has saved for retirement. It's a hard decision on what he should be doing. |

It's conceivable that there is NO safe place. Even if you invest in precious metals, even if you move it into a savings account , or annuities. or just cash you can hide under the mattress or bury in the back yard, there is a possibility that they will be worth NOTHING under the proper circumstances. Money isn't real. Food is real. Guns and ammo are real. A home easily defended is real. Trade goods are real. There's always a possibility that none of those things will be necessary. Frankly, I'm not a big believer in the Stock Market. I do have money in the bank and in annuities, that I can't see removing at this time. I hope I have enough food stored in case of emergencies. If you figure out the answer, Please post it for all of us. |
