Do they know for certain that an abortion would have saved her life? It probably would have if the miscarriage caused the septicemia, because it would have gotten the fetus out of her more quickly.

But what if it's the other way around? The septicemia could have come from a uterine infection of some kind which caused the miscarriage. If that is the case, fast removal of the fetus might not have made any difference to the mother.

It's a terrible tragedy, but I'm not sure it tells us anything that we don't already know about the abortion issue.

ONE - How dare foreigners from another nation come into the country and demand things be done to satisfy them. I hate rats and think they should be exterminated. They can be a great danger to people and cause disease. I do not go to India and exclaim they have to change their laws because I say so. These people should have never been allowed to live in Ireland. They do not belong there and this is especially the case if they do not understand that it is a Catholic country. I can't force a Muslim country to do my bidding. They would no doubt do the same thing.


TWO - This was a gendercide. I knew it the moment the father went on about how much they wanted a daughter. A miscarriage at seventeen weeks is rare and it is even more so that the fetus doesn't birth naturally. If something went wrong they probably assumed she would go into labor. Once she fully dilated the baby still didn't come out. Something was wrong with what happen. She caused her pregnancy to end. They do this sh*t all the time in India. No matter what class the people value sons more. She didn't want a girl so after she found out at sixteen weeks she tried to end the pregnancy herself and all she managed to do was break the amniotic sac. She wanted the hospital to do the rest. In fact she intitally went in there claiming a miscarriage and they told her nothing was wrong.

People who support her are sick in the head. It is wrong to kill baby girls. If Irish laws say they will not perform an abortion at 16 weeks just because you find out it is a girl the country has the right to do that. She could not get an abortion in Ireland and so she did one to herself.

There are far too many Indians in this world. I would not care what they do in their own country but they have no right to force other nations to do this. It is sick.

This is bullsh*t. No more immigration from India. There are too many people looking for work in Ireland as it is.

Could you post a link? I haven't heard that theory, but it's interesting possibility that the whole thing is her own fault. Still a tragic ending, but one that she may well have brought on herself. If it's true, I certainly agree with you that gendercide is dreadfully wrong. I wonder why the feminists aren't shrieking bloody murder about gendercide? Women are its victims, after all.

The reason so many Indians do this is financial. A family with a girl will pay a dowry to her husband’s family when she marries. It is a long cultural tradition in India that new laws cannot seem to break. So a girl means the family will lose money, property, or cattle on the wedding day. A boy means the family will gain those things. The illegal ultrasounds and the illegal gender abortions are used by India’s middle class to guarantee they get sons.

It is actually more common the wealthier the mother is. The father swore up and down they prayed for a baby girl. I knew he was lying. The fetus was a girl and she just had an ultrasound and found out it was a girl. Indians do this all the time. Especially in Canada and the U.K. where there are tons of them. Even where I am in the U.S. the Indians here do this.

Whole towns of nothing but men. Go to the orphanage though you will see the unwanted babies of poorer women who could not get the ultrasound.

The real problem is telling another nation how to behave. If white people were to insist on change in a Hindu country or Muslims country we would be call racist and lacking compassion. We would be told we need to be understanding about their religious practices. THey treat women is such awful ways in some foreign nations and yet these people go to white nations and complain.

Grieving husband tells of Savita’s tears at losing baby


SAVITA Halappanavar wept when she was told her dead baby was a girl, her husband Praveen has revealed.

"She loved children and she loved girls and she had talked about girls names," he said.

He said he heard his wife cry outside the operating theatre on the day the foetus was removed.

"I could hear Savita crying inside the operating theatre and I went in and I found her in tears," he said. "A nurse had told her it was a girl and she was in shock again," he told RTE's Prime Time.

He fought back tears in his first Irish TV interview as he chronicled Savita's last days.

He praised the support staff at the hospital, describing them as "very kind and sympathetic."

The Boston Scientific worker said Savita had cried 'Why me? Why me?' when she was first told she was having a miscarriage.

He said they had asked a doctor in front of a friend and three other medical staff if they could have a termination but a doctor told them this could not happen "because he said this is a Catholic country."

"She (Savita) saw the foetus heartbeat still going. She could see the heartbeat of the foetus and she said 'please I can't take this'. She still couldn't believe it happened to her," he said.

He said they had planned the pregnancy and were looking forward to being parents.

"We were on top of the world; we were full of joy," he said.

But after being told she was miscarrying her baby, Mr Halappanavar said he was told by a member of the medical staff "it will be over in a few hours."

Mr Halappanavar also revealed yesterday that he is to lobby the Indian Government to push for an independent investigation into his wife's death as it emerged the report of the HSE-commissioned probe will not name any hospital staff involved in her care.

He told the Irish Independent that he has contacted the Indian authorities to urge them to put pressure on Taoiseach Enda Kenny to reverse his refusal to grant him an independent investigation.

"What happened to Savita is a huge public issue in India too and I've contacted the Ministry (External Affairs) to ask them to use their influence in this case," said Mr Halappanavar.

His plea came as the Minister for Health James Reilly said the inquiry into Savita's death is to go ahead with the aim of reporting before Christmas.

He admitted however that the report of the private inquiry which Mr Halappanavar is boycotting, may be "incomplete" without his evidence.

And no member of staff in Galway University Hospital who were involved in the treatment of Savita will be named in the report. The inquiry team led by Prof Sabaratnam Arulkumaran from St George's hospital London is to spend the coming days at Galway hospital. They are examining case notes and interviewing staff.

Yesterday, (14 Novem­ber 2012) the Irish Times reported on the case of Savita Halap­panavar, who died last month at Uni­ver­sity Col­lege Gal­way, Ire­land. It was, we are told, a case of “sud­den mater­nal death”. The Irish Times sets out the facts of the case as follows:

Savita Halap­panavar (31), a dent­ist, presen­ted with back pain at the hos­pital on 21 Octo­ber, was found to be mis­car­ry­ing, and died of sep­ticaemia a week later.

Her hus­band… says she asked sev­eral times over a three-day period that the preg­nancy be ter­min­ated. He says that, hav­ing been told she was mis­car­ry­ing, and after one day in severe pain, Ms Halap­panavar asked for a med­ical termination.

They do this sh*t all the time in the U.S. and Canada. When they get verification it is a girl, usually at about 14 weeks, they abort it. It costs money to get the girl married.

A miscarriage at 17 weeks is rare. For the fetus to be alive while the woman is fully dilated and leaking amniotic fluid suggested something other than infection caused the miscarriage. It was not a natural occurence where something just went wrong.

On statistics alone, it's safer to be a pregnant woman in Ireland then in India, France, the UK, or the US. They have a much better maternal survival rate then all the rest, because they value the life of the mother and the child.

In fact, they have a maternal survival rate that is ten times better then India, where the woman came from.

Dublin, Ireland (CNN) -- Thousands of protesters marched through the streets of Dublin on Saturday to remember a woman who died after being refused an abortion and to demand a change to the country's laws.

Savita Halappanavar, 31, went into a hospital on October 21 complaining of back pain. She was 17 weeks pregnant at the time.

The doctors who examined her told her she was having a miscarriage but denied her an abortion even though she was in extreme pain, her husband has said. Halappanavar died of septicemia, or a blood infection, at the hospital.

Chanting "never again, never again" protesters marched to government buildings and held a candlelit vigil in Dublin.

Vigils were also held other cities, including Galway, where Halappanavar died, and outside the Irish Embassy in London.

Abortions laws in Ireland are strict and terminations can only carried out in exceptional circumstances.

Twenty years ago, the Irish Supreme Court ruled abortions are allowed when there is a real and substantial risk to the life of the mother. But the ruling was never been enacted into law, meaning there is little clarity for doctors or patients as to when an abortion can and can't take place.

It is this Supreme Court ruling that some Irish people now want made into law.

Gerry Adams, leader of Ireland's Sinn Fein political party, has said it's time for the government to legislate for abortion in certain medical cases.

Other politicians have called called for an investigation into Halappanavar's death.

Her death is "particularly tragic and harrowing, and shocking to all concerned," said Irish opposition lawmaker Micheal Martin.

He has called for an independent inquiry into the case "with personnel from outside the country to participate on such a panel of inquiry."

The Irish government needs to "establish the full circumstances" of her death, he said.

The government has said it will launch an investigation, but details, including who will lead it, remain elusive. The government has said it will include the Halappanavar family in the inquiry.

The hospital expressed sympathy to Halappanavar's husband, and noted in a statement that "the facts of this tragic case have yet to be established."

The hospital is conducting a review of the incident, as it does will all unexpected deaths. The Galway Roscommon University Hospitals Group released a statement saying, "In the case of a sudden maternal death, these procedures are followed: notification of the death to the coroner; notification of the death to the HSE's National Incident Management Team; the completion of a maternal death notification form. These national procedures are being followed by Galway University Hospital."

A normal mother who was fighting to save her child, would be happy to hear that her baby was still alive.
