Hostess brands threatens to close company by Thursday if union strike won't end!

Yes, the union and their demands are why they are where they were.

Instead of cutting things back because of the economy, Hostess was made to pay the demands set back years ago when the economy was better and there wasn't a war against obese people.


Now their profits have shrunk to the point where they cannot survive nor pay the pensions. Businesses need to be able to breathe with the economy. Unions make it so they have to pay whether the company is profitable or not.

Best thing to do is like mentioned above. Close and re-open without a union and put the people that want to work back to work.

Well on a good note there will be less fat people around.

Union workers are contracted employees. Say yes or say no to the contract. How can that be that hard.

My contract allows for atleast someone to say something when double standards are implemeted because of my race or my gender. I work alot of 16 hour days. My friends work those and holidays. We have a contract to protect the working conditions and the amount of pay we recieve. I've been in manufacturing for 13 years. There's always someone looking to push the limits of myself and my family. My contract helps me to be protected.

There's alot of people drinking the Koolaid on Unions and their contracts. Remember the people telling you alot of this stuff they themselves work on a contract.
I've read some of Rush Limbaugh's books, but even he has a contract am I right? (no offense Rush luvya!)

The whole purpose of unions was for fair wages and safe working conditions. My husband was a route driver years ago and had to belong to the union. They did nothing for his poor working conditions. A delivery truck with no heat in subzero temps and holes in the floor of a truck that kept breaking down.
As for Hostess, I could care less. I know what goes into that crap.

Why should carpententers work cheaper than lawyers and engineers? Id rathe see carpenters paid good wages so good intelligent men can afford to be carpenters than skimp on their wages and have carpentry work done by idiots who fall off scaffoldings, endanger each other and do shoddy work. If they are prepared to move that fast they must be at deaths door in a business context. Where is the communication between the union and the management, or how is there value to the (soon to retire) management in blaming the shutdown on the union? Or, how stupid is the union?

I worked for a small family owned business for many years. Before I started working for them all of their employees were trying to make it a union shop (they manufactured cutting tools)

Instead of letting the union in my boss fired each and every employee. There were probably 15 guys working for them at the time.

Just an aside but Hostess cakes tasted a lot better when I was a kid in the 60's.

Sorry to hear this. If you relax you will find that Contracted employees have taken nothing from you. In fact the idea of a contracted employee is very "conservative" in nature. The wages and working conditons in America have been fought for long and hard. There are lot to complain about employee demands. If it needs to rest on the shoulders of some guy that busts ass and works under a contract So Be It! I'm only saying if you have an agreement you should stand with it. If you can't you should sink with it. If you think the agreement should be broken and you should wait in the parking for work at pennies on the dollar bacause you don't know any better then I can understand your immaturity. Both American manufacture a d excellent cars. I've owned a few GM's that weren't worth a shit! Quality of contract and union aren't he same all over, but don't discredit you protection under contract because of word of mouth.
