But the officer must first give a "verbal warning" that he is going to use a taser. I have YET to see any police officer use their tazers according to this "policy". And doesn't the wording of that policy seem a little vague? If he looks like he's going to hurt himself, TAZE HIM! If the police ever do give a warning, it would probably sound something like this: "Sir, we see that you are engaging in something that could possibly cause you injury....so we are going to go ahead and GUARANTEE your injury by tazing you!" In the next version of these police stories, we will hear the dog was shot in all four legs and thrown into a fire that the police started as the homeowner was handcuffed and eyelids propped open to make him watch and listen to his punishment. The crime will be that he left a tire mark on the curb. |

The stated reason is to protect him from the fire, to get him away from it. Likewise, the officers wanted to be out of there too if it was dangerous. So they did it in the fastest way, so they could all get out of the dangerous area. Furthermore, this man was endangering the cops as well as himself by refusing to move out of danger. I am assuming the police's judgment was correct, that it was too dangerous to stay where he was. If the judgment was wrong, then the conclusion is different. |
