The grid and block patterns it had today several time I found most interesting.

Re: Meteor Scan Live Feed. WHAT the HECK !!!????
All is well. This was explained on the Solar Thread by Spittin Cesium. I've clipped it below. Short story: We are having a geomagnetic storm, the meteor scan picks up the energy.

(THANKS SC)

hi SC what do you know about meteor detection?
Cos the site i use is giving a really unusual signature, never seen it b4 what do you recon...

Hello there OJ : )

NiNz and I went through this a few Weeks ago,The equipment picks up more than just Meteors,it will display most any Energy event(within certain parameters)within our Atmospheres - What you are looking at(that looks wild by the way!)is due to Tropospheric Conditions due to the Geo-storming recently...If you look next time we have a Geo-storm you will see the continuous Wave Signal that is presently displayed.

You can find out more about the site by going through the panels on the page and having a dig, here is what I snipped for you regarding 'Enhanced Tropospheric and Sporadic E-Propagation Conditions' -

Snipped -

'Radio Propagation Experiments

Solar activity plays a major role in radio communications. We carry out experiments on various wavelengths examining the relationship between Solar activity and Radio Communications. In addition we also experiment with radio wave meteor scatter and sometimes communicate with other radio stations over thousands of miles using these reflected radio waves.

We utilise two main sites for ionospheric propagation testing and observations. The Observatory at Sidmouth and another site near Ventnor Radar Station on the Isle of Wight.

The meteor radar detection system is also useful for predicting VHF tropospheric propagation. Look for a continuous trace. The continuous wave carrier is received directly during enhanced tropospheric and sporadic-E propagation conditions

Hope that helps you a bitsunhf

Sounds about right since it is consistent barrage of positively charged particles :)

This is an unwanted direct signal from our Radar Source in France, caused by Tropospheric Propagation.

Not to be confused with "Sporadic E" which is generally a summer phenomenon and occurs 60 miles up in the Ionospheric E-layer, Tropospheric Propagation ("Tropo" or "Ducting" for short) is caused by temperature inversion low down in Earth's atmosphere. Where warmer and colder layers meet, a "duct" will be formed where radio waves (typically VHF and UHF) are "piped" along the duct where they escape many hundreds - or thousands - of miles away. Foggy conditions (which are also caused by temperature inversion) are often a good indication of this happening.

When our operators see this on their respective screens they can often pick up FM broadcasts from Froggie stations 88-108MHz (mostly 100-108MHz).

At Sidmouth and along the South Coast UK we get it this strong about 8 to 10 occurrences a year, each lasting typically 2 to 3 days. In these circumstances, South Coast UK Radio Amateurs would be able to make VHF/UHF contact with Froggie Radio Amateurs. I've attached an image from Sidmouth at 18:50UTC this evening (Wed). When we see this on our screens, we are receiving the direct radio wave from the G-R-A-V-E-S Radar in France.

Try out our MultiScreen: [link to www.merriott-astro.co.uk]

The additional attached 2 images are of typical meteor detections and what we normally see.

The straight line of “spikes” that you are seeing this evening are the DIRECT radar “blips” coming from our radar station in France. We normally can’t see these “blips” because the radar is out of sight over the horizon, but during Tropospheric weather conditions (like we are experiencing tonight) the radar signal gets bent and follows the curvature of the Earth to reach us as a direct signal, which is actually what we don’t want!

Think of it as the radio waves are acting like a mirage – like when you can “see” over the horizon.

Thanks for your interest.

Extract.....
"It's slacking off now.
Wish I knew what it was….

Is anyone near the observatory that can comment here?"

I live 10 miles from the Meteor scan site, I have a wide band spectrum analyzer, 90% plus of what is being broadcast is Interference, inter mod, passing air planes, etc etc, explain how you can get a 1 minute constant trace, perhaps the meteors are coming in waves, its all a scam I think you should change the title of this thread to Meteor SCAM,
I do think that perhaps 1% of the traces are meteors, but what about the 99% of rubbish, try goggling the person that runs the site on QRZ (M1000)read the rant there..........all will become clear.......well at least a lot clearer than the live feed.
