i want to be unemployed too... but unfortunately it's too easy to get a job in the healthcare field...bummer.

So funemployment is helping the economy. What's wrong with that? You have to earn funemployment...

Scare tactics, falling off of that fiscal cliff is (while painful in the short term) not such a bad thing.

It will hurt them more than it will the people.

Here's a thought--instead of giving these people unemployment, how about a tax break for small business to create jobs for them?

Much better use of the money than putting it down the rabbit hole of endless entitlements.

All this is saying is all the unemployed receiving benefits that expire will have no money to spend thus causing the loss of 400,000 more jobs ? OH Well- I suggest diverting money earmarked for section 8 housing and ebt cards to unemployment benefits.

Wait, if letting extensions expire causes the loss of 400,000 "jobs", then that would mean the govt. has been counting those who are on UI to be gainfully employed, am I reading into that correctly? If so, then we are beyond fucked.

Kind of old news, but at least the government here in Florida is trying to get the people a little more motivated. Maybe the reverse psychology will work.

I've been unemployed and collecting benefits since May. I just received the extension. I am putting out at least a dozen or more resumes and applications a week. I have accepted the fact that I will have to settle for underemployment. I was a finance analyst for a large beverage distributor. After 6 months of applying for jobs that would best fit my experience profile, I now am focusing on lessor paid positions for which I am over qualified but I need to work full time and I need a job with benefits. I have applied at McDonalds, JoAnn Fabrics, Safeway and other retailers. I have signed up for free job seminars offered by the Department of Employment Security as well as employment recruiting agencies. After all this I have only gotten one call for an interview since May. Every day wake up thinking this will be the day I get a call. I wait for a call to come from any of these places where I applied and there is nothing. I am going into a deep depression because I am feeling more worthless by the day. I agree there are some people who will sit on unemployment as long as possible but it is not enough to pay the bills so I'm not sure how they are doing it.
My point is...there just are not enough jobs out there for those who truly want to work! That's the truth. I am out cruising the job market every day and the jobs aren't there.
Oh, but there are plenty of colleges out there that are posing as job opportunities and when you get a response you find out it's a scam to get you to pay for an online school.

Do the math: Gasoline $4.00 per gallon. Fancy clothes,tools,uniform,work boots etc. Wear an tear on vehicle,lunch out . OR 99 weeks of unemployment,GLP every day ,sleep in,zero stress= no brainer. Capitalism is pain as the motivator and the possibility of becoming wealthy with hard work.

my next door neighbor got laid off a few months ago. he admitted hes riding out his unemployment til its exhausted. his wifes in a panic bc she cant meet the bills with the reduction in income. /smh

Once he decided to finally get up an look, he will be seriously sorry because there are no jobs. Trust me. I've sent out hundreds of resumes and applications to no avail in the last 6 months. Those unemployment numbers are grossly under reported. Too many unemployed, too few jobs.

If employment is allowed to fester while Benny and the inkjets try and print the worlds banks back into solvency, the production, investment and output would create so much more money from the fractional lending system: that the Dollar would collapse within weeks as they could not export inflation quick enough by importing oil, while crushing our domestic production.

That's why there continues to be no growth in the employment market !
When they print the world bank’s back into solvency (along way to go) you will see job growth/ (more than likely never)

Why ?

1) With 10K people per day retiring in the U.S. they are selling Bonds, stocks and equities to fund their retirements
Who will be there to buy what they sell to support prices ?

2) With 10K people per day retiring in the U.S. they are selling their houses to downsize and consolidate. When they are "trying" to sell who is there to buy and support housing prices ?

The economy needs to keep expanding with healthy inflation created by Investment, production and output........right? but, where is the money coming from to support all of these depreciating assets ? answer: A Printing Press

But these are the shallow thinkers called deflationists that have no idea that the anti-deflation backstop is the CDS insurance issued against CDO's that only have 6% or 6 cents for every dollar needed to honor them, when deflation triggers balance sheets into default. It will create the printing of Weimar style paper because the money to honor them (CDS) does not even exist yet !

I believe you may be thinking of the number of individuals who will not receive their checks should the issue not be resolved. The estimate is closer to 2-million not 4-million.
