There are SEVERAL other like Advanced Labs out of PA. |

Back at the end of August, my son came down with a badly swollen knee, painful and about the size of a baseball (he is only 6 yrs old) which I quickly realized was Lyme. It wasn't far in, maybe 10 days, and my instinct was clear on treating him naturally. So I devised a good strong but reasonable protocol using both internal, topical and emotional medicines, which I also went through thoroughly with two other seasoned grandmother medicine women who supported the regime. In a few days, his knee was back to normal. He had thrown up only once, the third day of achey knee, before any medicines. He had sparked only a moderate three hour fever after I began using the internal tinctures (Spilanthes, Echinacea, and one drop teasel and wormwood) which was good I felt for burning up the little buggers. Anyway, he was shining bright and happy in a week, and I continued a milder dillution of the herbal remedies for about another month. But Yesterday He came down with it all over again. This time it's the other knee, swollen up like all hell and he can't even move it much less walk on it. Backing up - in early August, I went to Deleware, on a vision quest guided by our one and only Jayne Bond. Part of what happend there was that my dream time was healed. I began having solid full sleep, with vivid clear dreams, and when I woke I was able to recall every detail in perfect clarity. The next weekend, we all went up to Rhode Island. The weather was electric - the backlash of Hurricane Katrina - and we were sleeping in a screened in porch, just inches away from the rain's spray. That night I had a dream. I breifely mentioned it in the snake/spider bite thread. I was in a Shamanic circle. The leader was giving verbal aknowledgements to the group that was there previous. One man in particular she praised with special honor for his shamanic herbal discovery. He described how he had made an antidote to venomous snake and spider bites, and that when he was in the amazon it had saved his life several times. He didn't say what the antidote was, but when we were all moving from the room to the outdoors it somehow hit me that this man had to be speaking about poke berries. I saw them clear as day in my minds eye. I stopped him and said what I thought. He was astonished that yes, indeed, had guessed his secret. He pulled me aside, to the skirt of the path. There was poke growing like sleepy over weighted grapes on a tree. He picked off the berry and said, "now, you must take the berry away from the seed, and make a tincture." He peeled it open and showed me the seeds. "They are poisonous." He said. "Just tincture the juice of the berries. They will cure the fate from snakes and arachnoids." When I awoke I remembered every detail and shared it with my whole family over breakfast. I didn't know what it meant, really, other than I should probably make this medicine or something. It was quite specific! I have never worked with or studied Poke before, so I didn't know anything about it other than don't eat it. The last weekend in August my Mother and I went to New Hampshire for the annual Women's herbal conference. It's three days long. It was when I returned from this that he was plagued with the symptoms I began the story with. Upon researching Lyme further, about a week and a half later, I found that deer ticks are actually arachnids. Now that rang a bell. I suddenly started flushing with information; how Pat Montgomery spoke of noticing plants that come close to your home out of hiding, the plants that are considered invasives and how they are linked with plagues of the present era; how proximity to people, proximity to oneself are very important factors. How dreams and intuitions shouldn't be dismissed. Driving home later that day, I rubbernecked to the side hill next to our house, where I saw the poke growing wild. But it wasn't ripe yet! I wrote madly to my fellow herbal woman about everything. She confirmed that indeed - the seeds of Poke berries are poisonous! what to you know. Follow-up reading confirmed more times that this is true. Now I realize that the root is used, but for other things. It didn't seem relevent. My son did very well on his given regime, and was happy as a horse with no problems; until now. And the Poke berries are ripe. Very ripe. I had the day off of work, and he stayed home from shool with me. I took my gathering basket to the hill with my tobacco offering, my gathering prayer, and an open heart. I looked closely at this extraordinary phyto-creature. The stems are so riveting a color. The definitive magenta. The energy of the plant seems to be blood-like; as if it the very heart of mother earth exposed, like the nerves or veins coming out from under her skin. Like a direct pathway to her brain. It reminds me of the awe of the olifactory nerve. It's a heavy feel though, too. A jovial but serious demeanor, like mom when she's done goofing off and let's you know it. Still loving and happy, but now, also serious. The tempurature when I held a bushel in my hands seemed to vary. I felt as if it were actually reacting to my temperature, rather than the other way around. I prayed to the plant and asked for guidance and for healing of my son. I picked her laden juice-filled parts and filled my cobbler sized basket. I remained open for her messages all the while. She seemed to be grateful, that someone was putting her medicine to good use. 'I'm good when people decide to ask me for help, instead of run from me' I felt her say. We seemed to come to a mutual understanding. I gave thanks and tobacco offerings, and brought my berries home. I laid a fine mesh seive over a quart sized pyrex measuring jar, and patiently coaxed the berries from thier stems. I began to roll them gently with the back of a silver spoon. Just firm enough to begin juicing them, but without disturbing the seeds. I continued until I was left with sizzling seeds and a frothy 3 and 1/2 ounces of fresh poke berry juice. I say frothy because it really is. It seems to emit a kind of noxious gas. It bubbles and oozed and smells like rubber or something. I felt like I needed to givie it time. I left it open to settle down and let the gasses evaporate. I poured over the seed/peels a bit of vodka. A last rinse if you will. I scooped the seeds into a bowl, and offered it with construction paper and a brush for him to paint with. Now that's herbal therapy! lol. And yes, he knows well not to put them in his mouth. I put the juice into an open jar, and filled the rest with part vodka and part raw honey. I don't know - something just told me to add honey. Maybe because honey is one of my allies? Or maybe to help cut the concentration and ease the harsh aclohol menstrum. But honey was a strong yay. The elixer at present is still setting in a open jar, about equal parts each juice/vodke/honey. And it's absolutley stunning. It's heavenly just to gaze at it! The questions I am still feeling for are wether to put this in the refrigerator (?) and how much to give him. So far I only gave him two drops of the elixer in water. I took it myself first, to see how it felt. It seemed 'moving' but not draining, and no stomach feel to it. I think that for now, two drops three times a day will be good. If nothing else, it may be an energetic trigger. So, for what it's worth - I put out my experience to the wise woman forum, perhaps it will be of interest or help to some or perhaps there will be someone who can help me find more answers. And obviously this is an abridged version - but I think I got all the important details in! Green Blessings and good dreaming, ananda I wonder if it worked? |

It has now been two years since then I feel amazingly better. Not 100 percent as I don't believe that someone who is infected with Lyme long term will ever fully recover but I am now at a point where I can function again. never say you don't believe you will get 100%... you can get 110% better than EVER... see Bruce Lipton's "Biology of Belief" do a UT fast and go to health food store and start eating right... salads, good proteins, fats, and goto Beyondhealth.com for best vitamins... start taking spirulina chlorella mix... take msm powder daily... so much you can do... start wanting to kick ass and you will... :) |
