Ron Paul Departs With ‘Our Constitution Has Failed’

Rep. Ron Paul, the iconic libertarian congressman from Texas, has delivered what will most likely be his final address to Congress.

In a sprawling, 52-minute speech to the House chamber, Paul lambasted U.S. government, politicians and special interests, declaring that the U.S. people must return to virtue before the government allows them to be free, and that the Constitution has failed to limit the scope of an authoritarian bureaucracy.

“Our Constitution, which was intended to limit government power and abuse, has failed,” Paul said. “The Founders warned that a free society depends on a virtuous and moral people. The current crisis reflects that their concerns were justified.”

For the retiring Republican, 77, the “current crisis” isn’t quite what it is for other members of Congress, who routinely use that word to describe the economic recession that followed the 2008 financial crash. To the Texas Republican, that’s part of it, but the causes are deeper, and it’s also a crisis of governmental authoritarianism and the vanishing of personal liberty.

Once again Ron Paul speaks out on the Constitution, and possibly for the final time. The need for liberty has never been more important and in need of such eloquence. This is a long address to Congress, almost 49 minutes, and well worth the watch and hearing.

And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe—the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state, but from the hand of God.

Lincoln's economic advisor Henry C. Carey explained the universal issue in his 1851 Harmony of Interests:

"Two systems are before the world.... One looks to pauperism, ignorance, depopulation, and barbarism; the other to increasing wealth, comfort, intelligence, combination of action, and civilization. One looks towards universal war; the other towards universal peace. One is the English system; the other ... the American system, for ... elevating while equalizing the condition of man throughout the world."

We missed out on a good one. But people would rather vote for whoever the media pushes on us. We deserve our fate at this time.

What you say would be true if the votes were counted properly, and not rigged by people programming voting machines.

no WE don't deserve it
some of us, a small few, have to suffer despite backing paul and his philosophies for many years
some of us worked our asses off to get this man elected the past 2 presidential elections
some older ones have tried 3 times to get him elected
now all of us have to suffer for the ignorance of the masses
we don't all deserve it
some of us have been shouting from the rooftops for a long time
and refused to bend over and "vote" for anything except what we truly believed in

Re: Ron Paul Farwell Address: 'Our Constitution Has Failed'
Our consitution is not what failed. We failed the constitution. It doesn't matter how good the law is if it is not adhered to.

It is said that someone asked Benjamin Franklin what kind of government they had come up with and his reply was, "a republic, if you can keep it".

I watched the whole speech this morning. Most excellent. That almost no-one else in congress cared because the average American voter doesn't care is the perfect example of why our republic has failed.
"God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty... Let them take arms... What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. " - Thomas Jefferson in 1787

Yes indeed, the FAULT lies with the so called people NOT defending the law of the land and routing the traitors. Too much free money from the Federal Reserve, too many big houses, fat bank accounts and all the trappings of easy credit.

Federal reserve fractional reserve credit=opium of the masses.

Re: Ron Paul Farwell Address: 'Our Constitution Has Failed'
like always people will look back at his speech, his wisdom, and say "he was right"
but most won't be able to admit to themselves that it was their own apathy and lack of support for their own country that led to his predictions coming true
he is so right
most americans are so immoral and so intellectually incapacitated that they define patriotism as loyalty to lying, sold out politicians

We have failed the Constitution as a government, and it is equally true to say "The Constitution has failed," because the government has failed in its oath to preserve, protect, and defend it.

They didn't even do it for 30 pieces of silver, but for relatively small amounts of printed fiat money running their campaigns and running our country into the ground.

What Constitution Dr. Paul?

The one that gave Congress unlimited power to legislate?
Oh that one...it was done away with in 1938 - see Erie vs Tomkins.
