It would be nice, albeit somewhat unsettling, if they used nuclear weapons, but I do not see that happening. The fallout, no pun intended, would be disastrous. The U.S. would need to eliminate the nuclear weapons of all non-allied nations. Further complicating the issue, would the risk of someone detonating a `dirty bomb' in retaliation. The Soviets sold nuclear material to the highest bidders when their union fell, and if I remember correctly, some of the material is still not accounted for.

I recall the buzz surrounding 'surgical drone strikes' as being a means to end boots on the ground was quite convincing; however, 11-years later we are still in Afghanistan and making very little progress there. I will concede that Afghanistan has turned into a nation building experiment; something the U.S. military should never be involved in.

Ideally there would be no war and we could all live in peace, but peace will never come as long as Islam exists as a pseudo-theological institution.

Inpatient facility is a perfect description, I work at a university lab, all major universities are basically mental institutions/nut-houses, esp the physics departments. At least have my own incandescent light bulb to work under. For some reason I just cant do math or problem solving very well under fluorescent lights. And they do give us a pretty fat internet tube, could be allot worse.

The simple answer is many will just simply refuse to go at any cost. The draft just won't work, no one believes in it anymore.

i seriously doubt that they would want to force deadly hardware and combat training on a security risk such as myself. there are plenty of dumb and naive blacks, browns, and redneck hicks to fill the ranks. if they were smart they would just hook up their drones and darpa robots to COD, no draft needed, ppl would pay a monthly fee to bomb foreigners in 1080p from the comfort of their 5x5 micro-apartment while eating SNAP purchased KFC and mr pibb while snorting oxys.

I am not pro war, but let me just advise you that that argument never worked before, it certainly won't work in an electronic age when your bank account can be locked down, right to free movement suspended and more, simply because you are in violation of a draft order

I was born in the mid 60s, but I had older parents, an older sibling, and I remember them speaking of the riots and protests over the draft

Back then it was a big deal when college draft protesters got killed at Kent State, Ohio by the national guard...back then attacks on US civilians were rare

Now police taser, maim and kill with impunity, story on page 25, right above the obituaries, laws have been passed allowing US military to act on US soil, and the 3 letter agencies have millions of rounds of hollow points

It's depressing how often humans will cave in to the PTB, but that's reality in 99% of the cases

We have no idea the level of penalties contained in some of the midnight executive orders, the 1000 page bills which have been rammed through

But I do know the trap has been set. You can't leave the USA if you owe back child support or owe on your federal student loans. You can't buy a plane ticket, or cross into Canada, because those borders will be on high alert and may have check points on the way out of the USA as well as on the way into Canada or Mexico

They've been thinking about this a long long time, jmho, and I would be surprised if all the loopholes and exits people used the past time around haven't been carefully blocked up and eliminated

Looks like we're in for a bumpy ride

Once again folks, I'm telling you that there are no plans to re-instate the draft. There is no budget for it and even an approval process would require an act of congress, not an Obama order.
In reality, we have very few volunteers who have been trained to be on a draft board, and in a time of emergency it would take quite a long time to make it run well. They would probably have to promote all of today's trained volunteers to paid positions to train other volunteers to set up enough boards.
It takes months to train soldiers, and if people are seeking to have an exemption, even longer time will be required. The draft is for 19 to 23 on average with the age of 27-30 still possible as reserve.
All loopholes to avoid being drafted were closed long ago. There are basically NO exemptions save for Pastoral or Priesthood.
This is the worst rumor mill, and statements mentioned about drafting people up to 40 are fiction.

If you're a drafted grunt, you are the lowest form of cannon fodder...you'll get sent where no one willingly wants to go

If you enlist, if you get trained, if you are on the "officer" track, you get a little more control over your life

IF there is a war (this is still conjecture) and IF the US gets dragged into it...then yes, you would rather be an officer than enlisted/drafted
