It would be nice, albeit somewhat unsettling, if they used nuclear weapons, but I do not see that happening. The fallout, no pun intended, would be disastrous. The U.S. would need to eliminate the nuclear weapons of all non-allied nations. Further complicating the issue, would the risk of someone detonating a `dirty bomb' in retaliation. The Soviets sold nuclear material to the highest bidders when their union fell, and if I remember correctly, some of the material is still not accounted for.

I recall the buzz surrounding 'surgical drone strikes' as being a means to end boots on the ground was quite convincing; however, 11-years later we are still in Afghanistan and making very little progress there. I will concede that Afghanistan has turned into a nation building experiment; something the U.S. military should never be involved in.

Ideally there would be no war and we could all live in peace, but peace will never come as long as Islam exists as a pseudo-theological institution.
