Finland is such a remote hellhole that foreigners were kind of novelty here ... at least it used to be so, that just being a foreign guy made one a fascinating and interesting person, who had absolutely no difficulties to score as much chicks as he will or could stomach ... it might be little different nowadays, so better hurry.

When it comes to drinking the Finnish way is to try to get shitfaced unless you're a snob. Vodka or beer it depends on tax rate. Liqour stores are run as a state monopoly, and generate vast amount of money for instance conducting various alcohol studies.

Say, if it happens to be that drinking certain group of wines are cheapest way to get drunk, studies would show that prblem drinkers and alcoholics favor these product. After lot of expert projects the staet decides that tax on these wines should be raised cos obviously they cause alcoholism. After couple of years, studies will show that now vodka is the dangerous drink (if it happens to be the cheapest way this time to get drunk) rinse and repeat.

Beer is popular now because of it's relative affordability, which makes for surreal sights, winos, children and immigrant Somalis walk around in the center of the city carrying 12 packs, drinking cold beer(open container) in the middle of snow and ice.

Extreme taxing makes drinking expensive here, therefore drinks are mostly chosen on utilitarian basis, people want most bang for the buck. And when you start to drink you get depressed, because you are throwing away insane amounts of money, you think fuck it! I pay the rent later etc.
