Put a small log or chunk of goat cheese in the center of a 1qt. Baking dish. Pour a jar of marinara sauce around it like a moat. Heat in oven until cheese just starts to get a bit melty. Serve with crusty sliced French bread. Easy, elegant, and delicious!

Re: What is the best appetizer?
So I just tried a new recipe I found on pinterest (which is the devil btw) and it was so good.

2 ingredient pumpkin cookies

1 can (or fresh) pumpkin
1 box spice cake mix

Mix together drop by spoon full on greases cookie sheet bake at 350 for 13-15 minutes

So good they have a muffin like texture and taste like pumpkin doughnuts.

I know that's more of a dessert but I figured it since this post was still going I'd add it here,

Re: What is the best appetizer?
Nachos would be considered an appetizer. So nachos are the best.

But they can be a meal in themselves.

So any salad will do, caesers, capresi, calamari, any salads!

Salads are the best!

Re: What is the best appetizer?
I RARELY make this, since crab meat is expensive...but there's something really yummy called Avacado Louis...basically you mix lump crabmeat with a bit of lemon juice, touch of cream, and some mayo (how I make it anyway), and fold into crab meat. I mix it to taste, so depending I may mix in Old Bay, celery salt, etc. Take 1/2 an avacado and spoon this mixture inside, top with paprika, yum!

Sylvia Plath wrote about it in The Bell Jar. She also mentioned French dressing and grape jelly over avocados, which she referred to as alligater pears. I've no idea why that stuck with me so long.

I use crab meat with tiny shrim and a little tinned salmon in a broth of cream, chopped celery leaves and turmeric with ginger or a little curry powder. Its a nice quick bisque, low carb and very decadent.

Re: What is the best appetizer?
hmm dont usually eat appetizers. Just put everything on the table at once...

But I think this one could work?

Tabbouleh:

quarter cup Bulgur wheat (The Smoother the better)

2 Batches of Long Leaf Parsley

4-5 medium tomatoes

Half a shallot, Fifth of an onion or a few of the white heads of spring onion (any work, although the best if the spring onion heads)

2 Lemons

HQ Extra Virgin Olive Oil to taste (at least 2 TBSP)

Salt and Pepper to taste

Some boiling water

Cover the bulgur in boiling water mixed with a little bit of salt in a bowl and cover with Aluminum foil for at least 15 minutes (preferably an hour)

Meanwhile, cut and chop the parsley, tomatoes, and onion finely and mix. After the time passes strain the Bulgur and add it to the mix (The Bulgur should soak up a lot of the water and become larger and smoother, if it hasn't then it needs more time).

Juice the 2 Lemons and add them to the mix. Also add the olive oil (I like to put 4 TBSP), and salt and pepper to taste (sea salt is great). Mix well and Bon Appetite! To make it even tastier, keep it in the refrigerator for 30 min - an hour, to mix the flavors well.

Re: What is the best appetizer?
RUMAKI (WITHOUT CHICKEN LIVERS)

1 pound sliced bacon
1 can sliced water chestnuts, drained
1 package dried pineapple chunks
Toothpicks

SAUCE:
½ cup low sodium soy sauce
¼ C. brown sugar
2 Tbsp. catsup

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Cut bacon strips in half. Lay the strips out on a cutting board and place one piece of dried pineapple and one piece of water chestnut on top of each strip. Roll bacon around the pieces and secure with a toothpick. Bake in oven for 15-18 minutes or until bacon is crisp, turn over and continue to bake until cooked through. Remove the wraps from the baking sheet, drain off most of the fat and then add the sauce ingredients to the baking pan, stir to deglaze the pan. Let the brown sugar melt in the oven to form a sauce, pour over the bacon pieces. These freeze beautifully. Reheat and put in chafing dish to serve.

Makes 34-36 pieces.

You can thank me later.

Re: What is the best appetizer?
Chicken Satay with Peanut Sauce Recipe
Ingredients

Marinade:

1 cup plain yogurt
1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 tablespoon curry powder
1 1/2 pounds skinless/boneless chicken breasts, cut into strips
About 20 wooden skewers, soaked in water 30 minutes
Vegetable oil, for grill
Lettuce leaves
Fresh cilantro leaves optional
Peanut sauce, recipe follows

Combine the yogurt, ginger, garlic, and curry powder in a shallow mixing bowl, stir to combine. Marinate the chicken strips by gently tossing until well coated. Cover and marinate chicken in refrigerator for at up to 2 hrs.

Thread the chicken pieces onto skewers working the skewer in and out of the meat, down the middle of the piece, so that it stays in place during grilling. Place a grill pan over medium heat and brush it with oil to prevent the meat from sticking. Grill the chicken for 3 to 5 minutes on each side. Serve the satays on a platter optionally lined with lettuce leaves and cilantro; accompanied by a small bowl of peanut sauce on the side.
Peanut Sauce:

1 cup smooth peanut butter
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 teaspoons red chili paste
2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
2 limes, juiced
1/2 cup hot water
1/4 cup chopped peanuts, for garnish optional

Combine peanut butter, soy sauce, red chili paste, brown sugar, and lime juice in a blender. Puree to combine. While the motor is running, drizzle in the hot water to thin out the sauce, (may not need all of it).
Pour the sauce into a serving bowl and garnish with the chopped peanuts. Serve with chicken satay.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27935470

mmmm love satay, except I'm lazy and would cheat with bottled peanut sauce.
