A planet that is not in orbit around a star is considered homeless because it is not in orbit around a star.

What does the Milky Way galaxy, which is a large collection of solar systems have to do with that? It was a unique find to realize that planets do not have to be in orbit around a star to exist.

I can't see the relationship...

How did you make that leap of logic, out of curiosity?

The Milky Way is part of the local group, a cluster of dozens of galaxies. Type "local group" into your google.
