Buying in bulk and ameliorating suspicion
Costco and Sam's are not always the best deals.
I topped off some supplies this morning and was questioned at two stores.

FYI: I maintain a three-tiered plan.
- In-house bug-out (1-2 months)
- Primary location bug-out with extended family/friends
- Secondary location with whomever makes it there

Anyway, I wanted to get back up to 75 gallons of water and top off a few other things today at home.
So I bought 5 cases of spring water, 5 pounds of tobacco and over 100 cans of beer at a single location. They cashier started to freak out and asked me what I was doing, and everybody around seemed to take notice.
I merely said: "5-day hunting trip way up North with a bunch of friends."

I topped off my gas supply by never spending more than 80$ at each station. Jerry cans in the trunk and back seat. I kept both doors open to block views.

I also topped off dog food and propane which was done at a farm implement store (Farm and Fleet). One cart through one cashier then to my vehicle, then a second cart through a different checkout line a few minutes later. The first cashier asked why I was buying 6-44LB bags of dog food, "Just how many dogs do you have?". I replied they were to be a gift to the humane society.

So yes, I lied a few times today. It sucks. But people start asking questions when they see stuff they don't normally see.
Fortune favours the prepared.

Lately I've been prepping the car. Had the Blizzak snow tires put on early. New battery, air filter. Also bot plugs, oil and filters. We may not be able to buy this stuff in the near future. And if so, the prices will be sky high....

Hiya, Wisc :)

It sucks that we can't tell people the truth, but I look at it this way - What business is it of theirs what I buy, how much I buy, or what I am going to do with it once I've bought it.

I have a tendency to be rather - blunt.

The first cashier is the Mom of a former student and knows my extended family well.
Frankly, I didn't want her blabbing away and giving my family more reason to think I'm nuts. LoL.

The second time, well, I guess I missed an opportunity
to scare the crap out of the 10 or sheep that were paying attention. ;-`)

If belief is the force keeping spinning plates aloft then feel free to fleece those dead eyes.

But, discretion is the better part of valor.

Nice plan and stocking though.

that just shows you where we are in history doesn't it.
The fact that you have to be devious and lie to buy ordinary everyday things and the fact that you are being planned/aware/ready......these things should be seen as a positive in society and business

Buying in bulk is smarter financially as well as necessary in case of a disaster.

This seems "odd" to people?

I find it odd that most people think-

"I'd rather trust in God than plan anything for myself or my family."

That to me is the indicator of someone who is about as sharp as a bowling ball...

Most people have no clue about our 'just-in-time' distribution method of goods.
Most people are sheep. sigh

Hell, most people have never killed, cleaned and prepared their own sustenance.

I used to be able to buy anti-biotics at the local pet store but when they caught on that people were buying them for themselves they quit selling them. Does anyone know where I can purchase anti-biotics without a prescription?

The flood was terrible,
everyone was evacuated except the town preacher.
A boat came by, "Preacher, hop on, the flood is going to get worse."

"NO!" said the preacher, I have faith God will save me.
A few hours later the water was as high as the 2nd-story window.
A boat came by, "Preacher, hop on, the flood is going to get worse."

"NO!" said the preacher, I have faith God will save me.
A few hours later the water was as high as the roof.
A boat came by, "Preacher, hop on, the flood is going to get worse."

"NO!" said the preacher, I have faith God will save me.

The preacher drowned.
In Heaven, he beseeched the Lord: "Why did you abandon me?"

God said: "Abandon you??? wtf I sent you Three Fucking boats!"

`Haven't you read about all the people whom were affected by Sandy whom don't have food/supplies? I refuse to let that happen to my family.`

The media gave you a GREAT logical and simple excuse that you could have used to inform and perhaps inspire others. You refused because you are worried about other people's perception of you.

That's a good one!

I wasn't joking though about the high percentage of people who think that trusting in God is their total plan. Most Americans dont even plan for retirement, let alone any kind of disaster, thinking that God will take care of them.
