We are both student and teacher in the same being. I can't think of any other species I'd rather be. Although, I would prefer to reincarnate in a time when being human isn't such a freaking nightmare such as after we've grown out of our need to control shit.

I will sure try to avoid that line next time...
even if my best buddies are doing it... I'm getting in the domesticated animal line and coming back as a cat.

Anyone else frantic to "remember" when they were a kid? I figured out how many days I had been alive and tried to remember back, one by one.

"A human?" said the agent, looking at my application. "Did I read that right? You want to be a...human?"

"Yup," I said.

"But with your qualifications, you could easily put in for all sorts of cushier assignments. Boddhisattva, light being, crystaline aether-dweller...how about psychic plasmoid being at the heart of the horsehead nebula? That's a popular one..."

"Nope, I want human." I tapped the application form again. "See, its all there in black and white. If we volunteer instead of being drafted, we get to request any assignmnet. And I want human."

"But..." the agent looked at me skeptically. "You are aware, for example, that humans have to, um, deficate, aren't you? I mean, like, every day. And then there is the fact that you won't remember your higher self. You won't know what's going on, you might get sucked into any number of dubious belief systems and mental prisons. And then there are the physical issues: cancer, herpes, meningitis...you are aware even if you incarnate in one of the first-wolrd locations and avoid being born on a garbage dump, any one of these will hit you. To say nothing of the hormonal and emotional. issues. Lust, frustration, loniliness, greed..." He trailed off, seeing my impassive, determined expression. "May I ask why?" he said softly, at last.

"I guess it's the love. I really want to experience that love. Love against all odds. Love when you don't know what's next, or if there even is a next. Love for love's sake."

The agent was quiet for a moment. "Bless you sir," he finally said, obviously moved. "We'll process your application."

Because its good. It probably would have been better without mind control. Being human actually indicates individuality in basic form. Living as another animal is ok. The only other existence that I could think of now is one that could replicate life. If you were part of that, then not only would you not be you/would be you with every other being shouting in your ear, you may also be at the mercy of more exterior threats. More than the known destructive elements and other possibly worse life experiences. Maybe I should have incarnated as a pessimist.

The Handbook for the Recently Deceased, aka the Tibetean Book of the Dead, specifically warns against reincarnation as an animal because you still have your consciousness and awareness, but are then trapped in the limited mind and body of a beast. Lots of people have told me next time they want to come back as my dog. As nice and comfortable as my dog's life seems, he tells me it is extremely limited for a conscious, self-aware being.

Maybe to have bragging rights with friends in a spirit world...

you forget when you do, so we knew why, and we also knew wed lose memory, but.... if you look deep, you know that you know you chose to come here and you can get power from that, and, your ancestors..

I liked this a lot, but I would have liked it even more if it ended with a clever punchline instead of this low budget moral cake.
