Nuclear materials are incredibly hazardous. Nuclear fuel is replaced in rounds of 1/3 of the total about every 1000 days.

Radioactive chemicals produce considerable heat in spent/irradiated fuel after power production is shut down. Nuclear waste cannot be buried because of heat produced by ongoing radioactive decay.

Spent fuel rods must remain submerged in water for decades.

Molybdenum - lasts a few months - does not vaporize or dissolve
Iodine - lasts half a year - carried easily by water and air - vaporizes at oven temperatures
Cesium - lasts several hundred years - dissolves in water
Plutonium - lasts millions of years - particles carried by water

I haven't seen any Geiger counters in stores since Fukushima, and I am surprised that I haven't.

True ... but even if Japan does it so honestly (your compatriot says it isn't all one would hope for) there are other countries downstream of that, which have lower standards.

One is the United States, if you buy seafood caught in Alaska.

So Japan’s limits are 12 times stronger than ours, which means that we could very certainly be importing food from Japan that’s considered unfit to eat there.

Obama is a joke and the state of our national affairs confirms this. YES he came into office taking on alot of problems, but unfortunatly his answers to those problems did not help. Sorry you tried but goodbye, but Nope! the US elects him again. The definition of insanity is repeating the same behavior expecting different results. This is no longer the US that we were all raised to know and I think it is going to get worse before it gets better. But, sometimes you have to tear things down to build them back up. All I know is that I will fight for the rights that I have and I will die keeping that freedom, if I have to.

THE MOST RECENT STANDARDS FOR RADIATION IN FOOD WERE SET IN 1991. I THINK THAT WAS BUSH, NOT OBAMA.

I know of a lady who owns a Geiger-counter and went into Costco to test the fish from the Marshal Islands...They spoted her whipping it out trying to test it and threw her ass out. And no test either!

Instead of doing much to try to protect their citizens from Fukushima, Japan, the U.S. and the EU all just raised the radiation levels they deem “safe”.

Nuclear expert Arnie Gundersen says that high-level friends in the State Department told him that Hillary Clinton signed a pact with her counterpart in Japan agreeing that the U.S. will continue buying seafood from Japan, despite that food not being tested for radioactive materials [see this].

And the Department of Energy is trying to replace the scientifically accepted model of the dangers of low dose radiation based on voodoo science. Specifically, DOE’s Lawrence Berkeley Labs used a mutant line of human cells in a petri dish which was able to repair damage from low doses of radiation, and extrapolated to the unsupported conclusion that everyone is immune to low doses of radiation….
