Re: 18,000 workers just lost a job Hostess just called it they will shut down
The Hedgies -- Monarch and Silver Point -- will walk away from this with TENS OF MILLIONS IN PROFIT, and the workers just wanted the wages and bennies back that they gave up 3 years ago to HELP THE COMPANY.

So the workers tried to help the company 3 years ago by taking massive cuts. That didn't work, Hostess still filed their 1st bankruptcy.

So even when the workers agreed to cuts, they still got fucked....tell me how this is all the workers' faults again?

Remember, management will now walk away from 2 BANKRUPTCYS with tens of millions of dollars.
 Quoting: JackedVegan

The workers tried to hang onto as much as they could 3 years ago. That's fine, I have no problem with it.

But even that deal became unprofitable for the owners after Obamacare came in. That's what just changed, and then the company "shockingly" closes altogether. Can't prove cause and effect, but it seems fairly convincing to me.

Re: 18,000 workers just lost a job Hostess just called it they will shut down
That's not a union's intent.

Unions' intentions are just to level the playing field as much as possible with overgrown, bloated management.

Hostess management EARNED $125K PER MONTH WHILE BANKRUPT -- why are you anti-union tards not addressing that!!??
 Quoting:

The management made 15,000,000 a year? Ooook.

That aside, it is the owners business, not the unions, not the employees. Period.
 Quoting: CygnusXI

Hold on, you're fine with that?

You do realize the workers are people, with families, bills, and obligations, right?

They had no clue that management was taking them on a fucking ride to no where.

Hostess filed bankruptcy TWICE!
The management will still profit MILLIONS.

That sounds like a fine system to you?
 Quoting: JackedVegan

1. The workers may have had no clue, but it was the job of the union leadership and negotiators to have a clue.

2. Having filed BK before was a big clue, if the union was thick enough to need that for reference.

3. I believe it's the owners, not management, who will make the billions. Management are workers too. Their task, assigned by the owners, was to shut the operation cleanly. Line workers' task was to manufacture Twinkies as long as the company stayed open.

Employees and the unions that represent them are only as greedy as the companies they work for. Win-win.

When the economy fails, so go the profits, so go the company.

When the company fails, so go the employee, so go the promised benefits. Lose- lose.

Nothing is guaranteed, such is life.

well stupid fucking unions are to thank for that

you cannot strong arm a company into paying you what it doesn't fucking have!
 Quoting: ^TrInItY^

If they look for a job now, they will be shocked on what poverty wages and pittance and zero pensions and health care everyone else is surviving on. They will see the real world now. (frown) And have to settle for a fraction (in another job) of even the offer they turned down.

Its not the 50s anymore..

I know a Union worker, He retired well and did great. But its just not that way anymore. theres nothing left now for the younger generations. Theres nothing left. All the jobs went to the Chinese, the Mexicans and the Illegals.

i LOVE the coconut covered balls from hostess.

the rest I could live without.

I am sorry for the employees though, not a good Christmas for them,

or the country.

I'm not sorry for the employees, it was a very stupid time to go on strike. They should have just been glad they had a job in this economy.

The day of the unions is OVER.
They arose out of abuses of power,
when some companies
had a virtual stranglehold on labor.
Those days are long gone.
Now LABOR is killing the goose that laid
the golden egg.
ALL FIFTY STATES need RIGHT TO WORK LAWS.
If people want to unionize, and insist on
destroying the companies that are good enough
to hire their sorry asses.
they deserve to be in the unemployment line,
or the welfare line, or the bread line.

Do you know how much the CEO of Hostess earns?

Driscoll was the previous CEO before new CEO Gregory Rayburn.

"In early February, Hostess had asked the bankruptcy judge to approve a sweet new employment deal for Driscoll. Its terms guaranteed him a base annual salary of $1.5 million, plus cash incentives and "long-term incentive" compensation of up to $2 million. If Hostess liquidated or Driscoll were fired without cause, he'd still get severance pay of $1.95 million as long as he honored a noncompete agreement."

Re: 18,000 workers just lost a job Hostess just called it they will shut down
the union is not the problem. Companies wanting to pay their employees minimum wage and not following OSHA and labor department guidelines, ripping their employees off, and partaking in American Corporate greed is the problem. The business owners think they can do whatever they want when they want just because they own a business and that the workers rights stop at the front door.

They Dont

This is why every business should be required to have a union to deal with greedy business owners.

and if the business owners dont like it then shut the hell up and close the doors. Thats they way middle american workers who have been screwed from all directions feel about it these days. The whole ship can just sink as far as im concerned.

I hope the facilities don't go unused for long. Yes it might lead to an increase in the price of bread. Maybe we've been paying a subsidized price for off-brand all along, subsidized by those who buy brand-name Hostess products.

I think it's hilarious reading the comments where these people compare themselves to police and firefighters. Lololol! If it wasn't for the unions forcing them to hire 10 people to do the job one person then they could probably afford to pay their employees what they want. Fuck unions!

probably restart with the same corporate guys under a new name but still have all of the same markets open to them. the big difference will be that these union idiots won't have jobs with the "new" entity.

these low iq drones could only think about their entitlements i.e. benefits and pension and think they deserve someone giving it to them out of thin air. do they really think a new company would pay them what they make now and just give them fully funded pensions?

it is this mindset that keeps obama in office and the gop nominating fools (rino's).

Cant blame them, they get accustomed to the lifestyle. I saw the union workers flourish working for a major automobile plant in the USA. They bought the new cars, new homes, and had a nice middle class lifestyle with all the toys they wanted to buy. Suddenly, WHAM ! the company closed and they were left with all these bills, There were many divorces, many people had to move, sell everything. It was like a nuke destroying ones way of life...

How does one go down in life when all your accustomed to is moving up? Have sympathy, all of us would feel the same way in that position..

I wish the government-union workers would go on strike and we could shut down the government!

Those are the union workers that really hurt us.

The union workers formerly at Hostess didn't hurt me. If I didn't want to buy a Twinkie at the price, I could just buy something else. But government taxes me to pay those unionized government workers.

Although you are trying to be funny, you are actually right. It is his beliefs he shares with unions that caused this.

Hostess let the workers know if they did not return from strike by a certain date they would be forced to close all opperations.

GREEDY UNIONS caused this, now 17,000-18,000 people will lose their good jobs. More democrats mentality... give me, give me, give me (take, take, take)... entitlement mentality (communism) has destroyed America.
