18,000 workers just lost a job Hostess just called it they will shut down | |

Quoting: JackedVegan So the workers tried to help the company 3 years ago by taking massive cuts. That didn't work, Hostess still filed their 1st bankruptcy. So even when the workers agreed to cuts, they still got fucked....tell me how this is all the workers' faults again? Remember, management will now walk away from 2 BANKRUPTCYS with tens of millions of dollars. The workers tried to hang onto as much as they could 3 years ago. That's fine, I have no problem with it. But even that deal became unprofitable for the owners after Obamacare came in. That's what just changed, and then the company "shockingly" closes altogether. Can't prove cause and effect, but it seems fairly convincing to me. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 27304459 United States 11/16/2012 08:50 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | That's not a union's intent. Quoting: Unions' intentions are just to level the playing field as much as possible with overgrown, bloated management. Hostess management EARNED $125K PER MONTH WHILE BANKRUPT -- why are you anti-union tards not addressing that!!?? The management made 15,000,000 a year? Ooook. That aside, it is the owners business, not the unions, not the employees. Period. Hold on, you're fine with that? You do realize the workers are people, with families, bills, and obligations, right? They had no clue that management was taking them on a fucking ride to no where. Hostess filed bankruptcy TWICE! The management will still profit MILLIONS. That sounds like a fine system to you? 1. The workers may have had no clue, but it was the job of the union leadership and negotiators to have a clue. 2. Having filed BK before was a big clue, if the union was thick enough to need that for reference. 3. I believe it's the owners, not management, who will make the billions. Management are workers too. Their task, assigned by the owners, was to shut the operation cleanly. Line workers' task was to manufacture Twinkies as long as the company stayed open. |

If they look for a job now, they will be shocked on what poverty wages and pittance and zero pensions and health care everyone else is surviving on. They will see the real world now. (frown) And have to settle for a fraction (in another job) of even the offer they turned down. Its not the 50s anymore.. I know a Union worker, He retired well and did great. But its just not that way anymore. theres nothing left now for the younger generations. Theres nothing left. All the jobs went to the Chinese, the Mexicans and the Illegals. |

They arose out of abuses of power, when some companies had a virtual stranglehold on labor. Those days are long gone. Now LABOR is killing the goose that laid the golden egg. ALL FIFTY STATES need RIGHT TO WORK LAWS. If people want to unionize, and insist on destroying the companies that are good enough to hire their sorry asses. they deserve to be in the unemployment line, or the welfare line, or the bread line. |

Its terms guaranteed him a base annual salary of $1.5 million, plus cash incentives and "long-term incentive" compensation of up to $2 million. If Hostess liquidated or Driscoll were fired without cause, he'd still get severance pay of $1.95 million as long as he honored a noncompete agreement." Cant blame them, they get accustomed to the lifestyle. I saw the union workers flourish working for a major automobile plant in the USA. They bought the new cars, new homes, and had a nice middle class lifestyle with all the toys they wanted to buy. Suddenly, WHAM ! the company closed and they were left with all these bills, There were many divorces, many people had to move, sell everything. It was like a nuke destroying ones way of life... How does one go down in life when all your accustomed to is moving up? Have sympathy, all of us would feel the same way in that position.. |
