Agree

Energy = life. It takes energy to farm, energy to keep herds alive, energy to carry food to stores

Energy works its way into every single thing we consume...transportation costs are the elephant in the room people want to ignore

The US had a chance to rely on its own huge resources of natural gas and coal gas to actually lower our transportation costs, half energy costs for manufacturers, to become the most competitive country in the G20

Instead, it voted for the European model, the California model. These assholes actually STILL come out in speeches and tell the rest of us that we should be more like economic basketcases of California and Europe

Holy Fuck, are they even watching this show?

My adopted home state Texas is once again engaged in war with the EPA, and I wish them success.

Maybe they won't win, but they sure as hell will push back and they won't go down without a fight

The EPA, which began as a cute fuzzy organization no one could disagree with, has over decades become a rogue agency which is doing insane shit like banning Primatene mist for asthmatics

The EPA Is Moving The Goalposts, Even After The Game Has Started

One of President Obama’s top agenda items was to pass cap-and-trade legislation intended to limit the amount of greenhouse gas emissions. Once it became clear the legislation had no chance of passing, the EPA decided to impose its own emissions-limiting agenda without the consent of Congress.

So the EPA adopted new goalpost-moving regulations—what Time magazine said “could be the most far-reaching environmental regulatory scheme in American history”—requiring power plants, refineries and factories to use cleaner fuels and adopt new technologies that reduce carbon emissions.

Re: Peabody Coal Company cuts retirees pensions
coal is a give and take- it gives us electricity for modern civilization, but is also a hazard to our health- we cannot and probably will not live w/o it until they release free energy- and i doubt that happens before many will die- from either the pollution of coal and other toxins or poverty..most likely both!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 11995984

The US is the Saudi Arabia of coal...we have, I believe, over 300 years worth of coal

What they are shutting down, I suspect, is not mined coal, but the enormous potential of coal gasification, which is considered a green fuel and pollutes on perhaps the same level as natural gas, maybe less

By gasifying coal, the thermal energy contained in the coal is transferred to the syngas stream while the CO2 created is easily captured and sequestered.

Coal gasification has taken place since the 1800's in both Europe and the United States. By applying heat and pressure in a controlled environment, a constant stream of syngas can be created. The clean syngas can be converted into many different end products such as methane, gasoline, diesel fuel or ammonia.

[link to www.lifepowerandfuels.com]

Through the process of coal gasification, which uses only the gas generated by the coal reserve and produces no particulate matter and eliminates strip mining, the US would have over 900 years of energy ...and thats from coal alone

The Coal gasification process triples the power of our reserves...and most are unaware of it

Furthermore, coal gas synthetics can even fuel airplanes, for 1/10th the cost of current fuels.

But that would interfere with their neat little story about peak oil and other narratives which further Agenda 21 and other globalist elitist BS

There is a Casper WY company working with an Australian firm to bring this fuel to market. Amazing stuff, check it out:

[link to www.casperjournal.com]

Bond said that while LINC’s Australian projects have proved themselves as safe and cost effective, the company’s Wyoming projects were moving considerably slower than he had hoped due to a regulatory bottleneck.

The cost of producing one barrel of jet fuel at Linc’s Queensland plant, Bond said, is US$30 per barrel.

A standard barrel of petroleum products is 42 US gallons. Jet fuel in Casper on May 11 was selling for $6.42 per gallon, or more than $269 per barrel, or a difference of more than $230 per barrel.

Re: Peabody Coal Company cuts retirees pensions
Friend of mine retired some years ago from working half his life at a coal company in Ohio. Said he lost his pension and 'black lung' check he and his friends got too. I can imagine how this will affect tons of people and their families that work a very dangerous job for years! Anyway, he said after months of changing names from company to company- they finally got their checks cut. Mind you, i think coal has been unionized for years, and the retirees never picketed i believe. I see some reports are that there is some legal work going on to get their money, but others can post any info they find clarifying the situation.

Corporations and Government know full well, how easy it is to get away with abusing the elderly and the poor. They deliberately single out the most vulnerable, helpless, and isolated citizens to ~exploit.

That's what's wrong with our whole economy: it's too discriminatory.

Conservative media have claimed that the Obama administration is waging a "war" on "cheap," "clean" coal that will cause blackouts and massive layoffs. In fact, the Obama administration has simply implemented long overdue and legally required clean air regulations to protect public health without hurting electric reliability or employment, and much of the transition away from coal is due to the rise of cheaper, cleaner natural gas.

Most Major Clean Air Act Rules Began Under The Bush Administration. A Congressional Research Service report explained that many Obama-era pollution rules proposed to enforce the Clean Air Act and other statutes "began development under the Bush Administration":
Not all of these rules are Obama Administration initiatives. Many began development under the Bush Administration, including several that were promulgated under that Administration and subsequently were vacated or remanded to EPA by the courts. Within the Clean Air Act group, for example, most of the major rules, including the agency's boiler rules and two of the major rules affecting electric power plants (the Cross-State Air Pollution Rule and the MACT rule [Mercury and Air Toxics Standards rule that will require that utilities limit hazardous air emissions using the Maximum Available Control Technology (MACT)]) fit that description. Other EPA actions, such as reconsideration of the ozone air quality standard, have actually delayed for several years implementation of Bush Administration rules that would have strengthened existing standards. [Congressional Research Service, 8/8/12]
